Job Summary
The Project Engineer role provides a pathway to become the Senior Engineering Manager who is responsible for designing permanent solutions to a variety of environmental issues. In addition to technical design work, the position will be responsible for management, development, and supervision of personnel within the Engineering Group. The Engineering Group resides in our Technical Services Department, which is a multidisciplinary group that provides expertise on various environmental projects within the company.
The Project Engineer implements a variety of engineering projects including interpreting and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and assisting with designing and optimizing remediation strategies. In addition, the Project Engineer has personnel management of 1 to 2 employees and works under the supervision and direction of the Senior Engineer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Education: B.S. in Engineering
Recommended Experience: 5 years of experience in engineering
Certifications: Ability to obtain a signatory credential (i.e. PE, LPG, CHMM, Soil Scientist)
Skills: Strong computer and verbal/written communication skills are a must
Additional requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and physically capable of operating vehicles safely
This classification requires travel to various client locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer workdays; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long distance drives and air travel may be required.
75% office or more (controlled environment), up to 25% field/site visit travel (environmental job hazards)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Create innovative environmental engineering solutions to satisfy the needs of our clients
- Provide engineering support to project teams with general guidance from the Senior Engineer
- Manage tasks of various complexity, establish completion milestones, and assign sub-tasks
- Perform scoping and costing for remedial strategies and other engineering tasks
- Assist with design and implementation of remedial strategies for sites undergoing closure in regulatory programs.
- Evaluate the results of remedial pilot tests or full-scale solutions with limited oversight
- Independently prepare written reports documenting field activities, data interpretations with lines of evidence, exposure pathways, and conclusions
- Mentor staff to successfully complete projects
- Serve as the direct supervisor of assigned personnel
- Strong problem solving skills
- Ability to apply past engineering experiences to new and different opportunities
- Ability to supervise the work of others
- Ability to manage budgets and timelines of high complexity
- Ability to learn of local, state, and federal environmental regulations pertaining to air, water, soil, and hazardous materials
- Experience with implementing remedial strategies for sites undergoing closure in regulatory programs.
- Demonstrate leadership skills with the ability to lead and mentor staff, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and oversee project teams
