EMPLOYMENT NOTICE
The Valley Career & Technical Center is a regional school serving 550 juniors and seniors from seven public high schools
in Augusta County, Staunton, and Waynesboro. VCTC provides high-quality technical education and career preparation to
meet the needs of today’s high school students through intensive training, dual-enrollment coursework, and work-based
learning. High school students may enroll in programs in the following broad career areas: Agriculture, Hospitality,
Mechanics and Transportation, Construction, Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Education, Human services, and Public

Qualifying Credentials and/or Education Requirements
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling or areas related to student development preferred.
- Interest in facilitating individual student development in academic, career and personal areas and facilitating student experiences in career development
- Growth mind-set with interest in life-long learning, professional development, and collaboration.
- 5 years in school district experience preferred
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Creates an atmosphere of mutual respect and caring a positive climate for learning and personal growth.
- Uses appropriate counseling strategies to advance student learning and self-awareness.
- Works with staff and administration to plan and deliver programs for recruitment, orientations, transitional support, progress monitoring, academic interventions, and crisis interventions as appropriate.
- Assists students in exploring interests, understanding areas for growth, and developing their talents.
- Facilitates best practices for social emotional learning with other members of the staff in planning goals, objectives, methods.
- Promote a culture of inclusion and a learning community of trust, respect, and accountability.
- Provide strong communication and be a liaison between VCTC and students, families, staff, area schools and community members.
- Provides assistance to students and parents regarding academic planning, career development and college planning as needed.
- Assists administrators with recruiting, application process.
- Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
Classification
Teacher – 210 days per year, 7.5 hours per day
