Long-Term School Nurse Substitutes - Middle and High School

ACPS anticipates the need for long-term substitute nurses to serve at the middle and high school levels throughout the second semester. Reports To: School/Community Health Services Coordinator Building Principal Regional School Health Coordinator of assigned school Hourly Rate will be commensurate with experience and established salary scales: LPN: N4 Salary Scale, 185 days/7.5 hours RN: N6 Salary Scale, 185 days/7.5 hours 2024-2025 Salary Scales https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1890/ACPS/4341881/2024-2025_Salary_Scales_Informational_Packet_V1.pdf PRIMARY FUNCTION Report daily at a designated time to School Health Community Service Coordinator to receive daily assignments to assist in the health needs of the student body within a designated school building under the direction and supervision of the School Community health services Coordinator. These health needs may include promoting wellness, prevention, assisting with illness and injuries, and assisting students with specific health procedures. QUALIFICATIONS Board of Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse Ability to work well with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner. Ability to follow directions, policies, and protocols as outlined by school board policy and state and federal regulations. Knowledge of universal precautions Current certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of childhood growth and development. Knowledge of childhood illnesses and injuries. Office management skills such as typing and filing. Basic computer skills Experience in the care of school-age children PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Maintains confidentiality of students information Attends to the health needs of students- following the guidelines contained within the First Aid Guide For School Emergencies flip chart. Assists with recommended and state-mandated screenings. Administers medications and treatments as provided for in the policy of Augusta County Public Schools. Maintains accurate student records and daily logs. Assists in the collection of data for state required or local reports. Reports major health concerns to the supervising nurse and building administrator within appropriate timelines Reports suspected child abuse and neglect to supervising nurse, building principal, and Child Protective Services Initiates and distributes incident and accident reports per school division policy of the assigned school(s). Communicates with parents on health-related issues. EVALUATION Performed annually by supervising and building administrator in accordance with the school board’s policy and administrative regulations for evaluation of paraprofessional personnel. On-site Evaluations by the School Community Health Services Coordinator or Regional School Health Coordinator conducted bi-annually.
