Accreditation Manager
The Augusta County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accreditation Manager to join our team. This position may be a sworn Deputy Sheriff or a civilian employee, depending on the needs of the office. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office accreditation process, including re-accreditation, and continuous compliance with all applicable standards. The Accreditation Manager ensures adherence to the requirements by the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission.
In addition to accreditation responsibilities, this role includes coordinating community outreach programs, managing sheriff records, and supporting internal projects and initiatives. This is an administrative and professional position performed under the general direction of the Sheriff.
- Administers and maintains the department’s accreditation and re-accreditation processes;
- Ensures continuous compliance with VLEPSC standards;
- Reviews, develops, and revises department policies to meet accreditation standards;
- Coordinates with legal staff to verify policy adherence to applicable laws;
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge on accreditation processes and standard changes;
- Serves as liaison to accreditation bodies and participates in assessments and conferences;
- Prepares detailed reports and documentation for internal and external review;
- Organizes and maintains accreditation records and evidence files;
- Identifies gaps in compliance and develops action plans to address deficiencies;
- Coordinates and delivers training to agency staff on accreditation requirements;
- Supports the Agency’s Community Policing mission by attending, photographing, and interacting with the public;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Enforces federal, state, and local laws and ordinances through patrol, investigation, and arrest activities;
- Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, including crimes in progress, disturbances, and accidents;
- Conducts criminal investigations, interviews witnesses and suspects, collects evidence, and prepares incident reports;
- Executes criminal warrants, civil processes, subpoenas, and court orders;
- Provides court security and prisoner transport, as needed;
- Assists in traffic enforcement, crash investigations, and directing traffic during special events or emergencies;
- Participates in tactical operations and high-risk calls when authorized and trained;
- May serve in uniformed patrol or specialty assignments as directed by command staff;
- Maintains required certifications and firearms qualifications as prescribed by the department;
- Performs other law enforcement duties consistent with the role of Deputy Sheriff.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred Associate’s Degree (or higher) in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred;
- Experience in administrative support, accreditation management, or law enforcement operations highly desirable;
- Familiarity with VLEPSC or CALEA accreditation processes is strongly preferred;
- An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.
- Must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Virginia driver’s license;
- Must maintain a satisfactory driving record;
- Subject to background investigation.
- Must be currently certified as a law enforcement officer by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), or eligible to obtain certification through approved academy training;
- Must meet and maintain all minimum employment standards established by the Virginia DCJS for sworn law enforcement officers;
- Must pass a comprehensive medical examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation;
- Must meet physical fitness and firearms proficiency standards established by the agency;
- Must maintain current certification and complete all required in-service and specialized training;
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and be subject to call-out as needed.
