The Library Aide achieves this goal by creating a welcoming environment through exceptional customer service and ensuring library materials are processed and well organized.
The Library Aide is responsible for the processing and circulation of library materials and performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
The Library Aide performs the following tasks:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of the procedures, practices, and equipment of a public library; ability to learn standard library tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routines; ability to perform routine tasks accurately; ability to operate standard computers, use social media, and post to the Internet; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates and library patrons. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds and perform tasks that involve standing, stooping, or bending.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.

Part-Time: 20 Hours/ week
Nights and weekends

The Library Aide is responsible for the processing and circulation of library materials and performs related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
The Library Aide performs the following tasks:
- Receives and processes new materials including books, audio/visual items, and periodicals. Processes items on reserve for patrons and staff.
- Promotes good customer relations by demonstrating a positive customer service attitude
- Assists the public in the use of all library collections including adult, teen, and children’s materials
- Directs, advises, provides, assists, and instructs patrons with locating library materials, answering reference and directional questions, and placing reserve requests.
- Provides individual instruction in the use of the library’s print and computer-based resources, including eBooks
- Assists with collection maintenance such as shelving materials and pulling items for weeding as instructed by Library Managers
- Performs circulation tasks such as charging and discharging library materials, emptying book drops, shelving, shelf reading, processing holds, etc.
- Works the service desks such as the Circulation Desk, Children’s Desk and Help Desk.
- Assists patrons with registering for library cards
- Receives and processes new materials including books, audio/visual items, and periodicals
- Communicates effectively with patrons and staff
- Operates basic office equipment including computers, copiers, fax machines, and printers
- Collaborate with other library departments on projects and programs
- Performs related tasks as required.
