What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infection Control Coordinator position at Augusta Health?
Job Summary :
Support and manage comprehensive organization wide-infection surveillance, prevention, and control programs in accordance with current requirements of regulatory, government and accrediting / licensing agencies and organizational policies and procedures at the direction of the Infection Control supervising Coordinator / Manager. Performs surveillance of patients with, or at risk for, infectious disease. Collaborates with disciplines and departments in the development, evaluation, review, revision and approval of general and departmental Infection Control policies and techniques / equipment. Conducts monitoring, evaluation, follow-up activities for nosocomial infections and outbreaks, including focus studies when indicated. Provides Infection Control education and orientation. Serves as an Infection Control resource person. Keeps abreast of new developments in Infection Control and related agency regulations through literature review and continuing education opportunities. Collaborates with hospital Departments including but not limited to EVS, Facilities, Employee Health, QRM department, Inpatient and Outpatient locations / offices, local Public Health departments and Regional / State Infection Control network. Support the day-to-day administration and development of the infection surveillance, prevention, and control program.
Qualifications :
- Preferred BSN registered nurse with at least 4 years’ experience in acute care clinical / patient care nursing or 2 years of experience in Infection Prevention. Current VA License or ability to obtain is required.
- Preferred training in Infection Control surveillance, prevention, and control function, as well as experience in Epidemiology, sterilization, sanitation, and disinfections.
- Prefer knowledge of hospital accreditation and OSHA standards, committee experience, statistical and computer skills strongly desired.
- Prefer knowledge of / or experience in bacteriology / microbiology.
- Good organization and communication skills required.
