Performs preventative maintenance, replacement, and repairs of install equipment in buildings and ground maintenance sections within the guidelines of supervisory instructions, state and local building codes, safety codes, electrical codes, plumbing codes, blueprints and fire department policies and procedures.  Reports to the Logistics Captain or other designated person and works with co-workers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public to provide maintenance support.
  • Performs general maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities: and performs semi-skilled manual work involving building maintenance, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and drywall, masonry, custodial, or other maintenance projects.
  • Performs general carpentry and electrical repairs and/or installs ensuring that operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Performs general electrical repairs consisting of bulb replacement, ballast replacement, receptacle and switch replacement, fixture replacement, globe replacement and other various electrical maintenance and repairs.  Performs routine plumbing tasks, troubleshoot plumbing problems installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; clears and unblocks water lines and drains; repairs steam lines, toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, etc.; solders pipes; and repairs plumbing leaks.  Performs general maintenance and repairs of HVAC systems and generators.
  • Performs various tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, masonry or construction projects: paints interior and exterior surfaces; performs general concrete work, plasters applications and places sheetrock; removes, repairs, and replaces floor/ceiling tile; inspects, installs and repairs roofs; installs, adjusts, and repairs doors and hardware; replaces windows, doors, and glass panes; lubricates hardware; performs locksmith duties; and performs related maintenance and repair activities.
  • Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects: provides cost projections as requested; gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; monitors inventory levels; and orders new or replacement materials as required.
  • Participates in the setup and removal of tables, chairs, stages etc. for daily meetings and classes and special events.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature of level.
Minimum Education: High School diploma or GED {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}
Experience: Three (3) years of experience in general construction, maintenance, and repair.
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, standards, and tools used in carpentry, masonry, painting, and plumbing industries. 
  • Familiarity with departmental and safety rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using hand and bench tools.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Basic math skills for estimating height, width, length, and other proportions.
                                                                        
Licensing:  Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history.  If state license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
 
Certification:  Completion of apprenticeship/internship in electrical.

  • Math:  Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
  • Functional Reasoning:  Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
  • Situational Reasoning:  Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
  • Physical Abilities:  Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing ladders, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements:  Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors:  Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents.  
                      
This position does require travel to other locations more than 50% of the time.
