JOB SUMMARY:
The Embroidery Machine Operator is responsible for operating multiple head machines and creating a variety of logos and decorative designs on customized headwear products. This job takes place in a manufacturing environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (includes other duties as required):
- Tends semiautomatic sewing machine with multiple-sewing heads to embroider names, letters, or decorative designs/logos on fronts, backs, middles, peaks, and other panels.
- Reads work order to determine type and location of embroidery, as well as thread colors and color sequence needed.
- Counts parts, checks for cloth defects, checks for proper taping and cover stitches, and separates parts by sizes.
- Places spools of thread on required spindle of each sewing head and draws thread through machine, guides, tensions, and eye of needle while adjusting thread tension by turning appropriate knobs to the left or right on the front of each sewing head.
- Uses Work Order system to retrieve embroidery files noted on work order and uploads it into embroidery machine for each run.
- Loads each cap appropriately onto a hoop that is properly attached to a corresponding sewing head.
- Depresses start/stop button to start or stop machine.
- Unloads hoops after embroidered design is complete and loads additional hoops.
- Observes sewing operation to detect defects in stitching, such as looping, gaps, and frays, that indicate machine malfunction. Notifies the embroidery decoration supervisor if unable to correct the issue.
- Utilizes cleaning tools with cleaning fluid to remove any dirt, oil, or other stains from any embroidered panel.
- Responsible for the quality of caps embroidered according to company quality guidelines.
- Changes bobbins and rewinds bobbin thread onto an extra set during the operation.
- Maintains proper bobbin tension on bobbin casings.
- Oils bobbin hooks and changes needles.
- Utilizes supplies such as threads, tear-away paper, foam, and glue to complete decorated orders.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:

- Sewing skills preferred.
- Experience in a production environment preferred.
- Mathematical skills including ability to read a ruler.
