Job Title: Dish Machine Operator Revised: April 2022
Wage Grade: 705 - $15.00
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time, 10 month schedule, additional summer work may be available
Reports To: Assistant Manager
Overview: Supports entire team in a friendly manner by assuring sparkling clean dishes, pots and pans for preparation while supporting other operational and custodial demands. Position also includes multi-tasking throughout the department assisting Augustana to maintain the Dining service mission statement.
Primary Duties:
1. Stocking and set up of dish machine area, presoak area and three compartments sink.
2. Scrapes, sorts, stacks and scrubs pots and pans, dishes, utensils, etc. in preparation for warewashing machine.
3. Supplies serving ad preparation areas with clean dishes and utensils.
4. Organizes dishroom area and other storage areas of smallwares, dishes or cooking/storage pans.
5. Maintains satisfactory sanitation level and applies established safety procedures. Is involved in safety inspections.
6. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with co-workers and guests.
7. General custodial duties including stocking, sweeping, mopping, wiping, chemical handling and the removal of recycling and garbage.
8. Set up, operate and disassembly of dish machine, three compartment sink, ware wash for silverware and other related operational procedures in an efficient, effective and sanitary manner.
9. Insures proper temperature levels on dish machine to meet Health Department standards.
10. Performs cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming and general cleaning. Complete cleaning tasks as assigned on daily side work cleaning list.
11. Assists as necessary in kitchen, service and storekeeping areas.
12. Assists in on the job training of students and other employees assigned to the food service sanitation areas.
13. Performs various other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Experience:
· Ability to work with limited supervision and in collaboration with other employees.
· Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a high volume, customer-oriented environment.
· Outstanding service orientation and the ability to create immediate rapport with a wide variety of personalities.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional food service environment. This role may frequently use commercial kitchen equipment such as rational ovens, stem kettles, bakery ovens, pizza ovens, and dish washers, along with basic office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, fax machines and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment.
Expected hours of work: Generally works shifts of 6:30am-3pm, 8am-4:30pm or 1pm-9:30pm, including weekends. Rotating weekends off when possible. Work hours and schedule is driven by department's operational need. May occasionally work other 8 hours shifts or overtime between 6am -10pm to cover for special events, peak periods of operation and staff shortages. When academic classes are not in session and food service is not open you may work an 8 hours shift between 6am-5pm.
Travel: Little to no travel is expected for this position.
