PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of this position is to participate and represent nursing in the Organization’s leadership and direct nursing services.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of approved School of Nursing with an active license in nursing and a minimum of 3 years clinical experience
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Ohio
  • Advanced educational and experiential qualifications with consideration of the following:
    • Understanding of the organization’s scope and complexity and the position’s responsibility
    • Knowledge of the scope and complexity of the nursing care needs of the major populations served, as well as the culturally diverse and special needs of the population
    • Education – BSN required; MSN preferred
    • Certification – required for those meeting certifying agency eligibility requirements
    • Membership in a professional nursing organization
    • Academic and experiential requirement as required by applicable federal, state, and local law

 

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (See criteria-based performance evaluation.  Based off AONE Nurse Manager Competencies)

  • Participates in planning, forecasting, and meeting budget for assigned cost center(s) while explaining financial variances
  • Continually monitors and evaluates initiatives involving care coordination
  • Participates in recruitment, selection, education, orientation, retention, evaluation, and professional development of staff
  • Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling of personnel within their assigned cost center
  • Develop role definitions, guidelines, and expectations for staff
  • Fosters a climate conducive to mentoring and coaching staff
  • Applies principles of crisis management to handle conflict and promote a healthy work environment
  • Values diversity and maintains an environment of inclusiveness and fairness
  • Facilitates participation of staff in organizational and unit-based decision-making councils
  • Coordinates nursing services with the services of other health care disciplines
  • Fosters and promotes an environment of learning, while promoting professional development
  • Identifies key performance indicators and continually monitors department metrics
  • Develop and implement strategies based on evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes and experience
  • Maintains continual regulatory readiness
  • Participates in hospital-based governance councils
  • Utilizes technology to support unit and patient outcomes
  • Promotes HRO tools and tones for high reliability

Primary Duties

 

  1. Monitors and reports activity on The Joint Commission website.
  2. Maintain continual readiness by monitoring and facilitating compliance with regulatory standards.
  3. Serves as key contact with surveyors during regulatory surveys to coordinate notification, communication, review, and provision of surveyor requested data.
  4. In response to post survey and/or complaint requirements, coordinates composition of complaint response, action plans, monitoring, auditing, feedback, and reporting.
  5. Plans, organizes, and coordinates the interdisciplinary Policy and Procedure Committee meeting.
  6. Assist with policy development to comply with regulatory and evidence-based standards.
  7. Serves as a consultant and resource to departments in evaluation and development of strategies to help maintain policies and regulatory compliance.
  8. Participates and collaborates in Quality Improvement activities.
  9. Collaborates, develops, and participates in formal and informal education programs for staff, managers, executives, and LP’s.
  10. Remains abreast of current trends in the field by reviewing literature and participating in research activities.
  11. Maintains annual mandatory training requirements.

 

Working Conditions

 

  • Monday through Friday
  • Weekends, holidays, off shifts, and on call as needed for education, compliance, on site surveys
