JOB TITLE: Device Clinic Staff
PURPOSE OF POSITION: To perform all areas of a comprehensive device clinic.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normally works 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday with a lunch break daily. Lunch breaks are coordinated with other staff members for adequate coverage.
May require paid overtime before or after normal working hours.
Subject to frequent interruptions during performance of duties.
Expected to adhere to office policy and procedures.
Subject to blood and body fluid exposure.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of an approved School of Nursing or Medical Assisting.
Current license to practice nursing if applicable.
Must have current up-to-date CPR training.
Ability to meet and interact with the public in a mature, courteous, and professional manner.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work efficiently and accurately under conditions of high stress.
Previous device clinic or cardiac experience preferred but not required.
TASKS:
Performs device interrogation following established guidelines.
Perform trans-telephonic checks and remote home monitoring checks following established guidelines.
Completes charts on new and established patients with devices.
Educates patients on device management and follow up.
Schedules appointments for device patients.
Communicates with insurance/ precertification staff.
Performs device checks following physician protocols.
Correctly educates patient for all testing and medications that are ordered.
Correctly connects patient to appropriate programmer/AICD unit for interrogation and reprogramming.
Returns phone calls to patients in a timely manner.
Maintains current knowledge based on new cardiac procedures and medications.
Communicates patient problems to physicians in a timely manner.
Notifies physician immediately of abnormal results.
Travels to outlying areas when staffing dictates.
Uses the EHR to accurately, legally, and timely document in patient charts.
Able to interpret arrhythmias, troubleshoot and reprogram settings of pacemaker/defibrillator according to patient’s needs and department protocols.
Keeps accurate logs on equipment and supplies for the device clinic.
Communicates with device representatives as needed for patients and physician issues involving devices.
Monitors for any device recalls and properly follows established protocols for patient follow up.
