What are the responsibilities and job description for the PATIENT CARE TECHNICIAN - LABOR AND DELIVERY position at Aultman Health Foundation?
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The primary purpose of the LDRP Tech is to assist with the care of patients in the Birth Center through their stay by providing patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and perform duties of vital signs , point of care testing, venipuncture, EKG, stocking, patient transport, and other patient care duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
- Reports to charge nurse to receive instructions for the shift.
- Vitals Signs, blood glucose monitoring, draw blood work, obtain urine sample, complete EKG as ordered/directed.
- Removal of peripheral IV’s and foley catheters as directed.
- QC of blood glucose monitors and maintain supplies.
- Provides safe environment for patients: 2-hour purposeful rounding, assists to bathroom safely, transports patients both within and off of unit, discharging patient to car via wheelchair.
- 1 :1 companionship as assigned.
- Assist with daily hygiene needs of patients.
- Provide a clean organized environment: clean equipment, Strip rooms, stocking of rooms and unit supplies, keeping hallways free of clutter or equipment.
- Assist with delivery set up and breakdown.
- Assists staff nurse with additional duties as needed or as delegated.
- Basic computer skills and charting.
- Answering call lights.
- Respectful communication and appropriate use of time.
Job Requirements
- High school graduate, minimum 18 years old
- Medical tech and venipuncture experience preferred.
- Understands and adheres to all policies and regulations.
- Ability to handle public tactfully.
- Displays a positive attitude and respect for patients, visitors, and peers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Shifts vary to provide coverage and meet the needs of the unit
- Primary responsibility is patient care.
- Lunch periods and breaks are assigned and coordinated with other staff member to maintain adequate departmental coverage.
- Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.
- Sitting/standing/moving about during working hours
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ADDENDUM
PURPOSE: To identify specific functions job requirements and work environment factors that could affect job performance.
