Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Laboratory Accessioner to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately receiving, verifying, and logging samples and test orders into our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). This role is critical in ensuring that specimens are properly identified, documented, and ready for analysis, thereby supporting timely and accurate laboratory testing.
Key Responsibilities:
Specimen Accessioning & Documentation
- Receive and Verify Specimens:
- Accept incoming samples and verify accompanying documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Cross-check test orders and specimen labels to ensure proper patient identification.
- Data Entry & Record Maintenance:
- Accurately enter specimen information into the LIMS.
- Maintain detailed and organized records of all accessioned specimens and test orders.
- Labeling & Tracking:
- Ensure all samples are correctly labeled and barcoded in accordance with laboratory protocols.
- Track specimens throughout the accessioning process to ensure timely delivery to the appropriate testing areas.
Quality Control & Compliance
- Adherence to Protocols:
- Follow established SOPs and quality control measures to maintain data integrity and specimen quality.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and laboratory safety guidelines.
- Communication:
- Collaborate with laboratory staff to resolve any discrepancies or issues with specimen documentation.
- Communicate with clinical staff or referring departments when additional information or clarification is needed.
Administrative & Support Functions
- Record Keeping:
- Assist in maintaining and updating laboratory accession records.
- Prepare documentation for audits and quality assurance assessments.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline the accessioning process and support initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certification in medical laboratory sciences is a plus.
- Experience:
- Prior experience in a laboratory environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with accessioning procedures or working with LIMS is an asset.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and data entry.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot common laboratory equipment (e.g., barcode scanners, label printers).
- Soft Skills:
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a clinical or diagnostic laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA, CAP) and laboratory quality assurance standards.
