Job Summary:
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Sample Prep PCR Lab Technician to join our laboratory team in Louisville, KY. This role involves preparing biological samples for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing, ensuring accurate and efficient processing. The ideal candidate will have experience in sample handling, pipetting techniques, and laboratory safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Sample Preparation & Processing
- Prepare, extract, and process DNA/RNA samples for PCR analysis using standardized protocols.
- Perform nucleic acid extraction (manual and automated) from biological specimens.
- Operate and maintain sample preparation equipment, including centrifuges, pipettes, and liquid handlers.
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of samples to prevent contamination and maintain integrity.
Laboratory Operations & Compliance
- Follow all SOPs and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.
- Maintain a sterile and organized work environment, adhering to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Assist in quality control procedures, troubleshooting any inconsistencies or technical issues.
- Handle and dispose of biological and chemical materials safely, following laboratory safety protocols.
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management
- Assist in routine maintenance and calibration of PCR-related equipment to ensure accuracy.
- Monitor and manage laboratory inventory, including reagents, primers, and consumables, to ensure uninterrupted workflow.
- Troubleshoot and optimize sample preparation processes in collaboration with senior lab personnel.
Data Recording & Reporting
- Accurately document sample processing steps in laboratory records and electronic systems.
- Maintain detailed logs of reagent use, sample batches, and processing times.
- Communicate any deviations or issues to laboratory supervisors to maintain quality standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Experience:
- 1-2 years of laboratory experience in molecular biology, PCR, or clinical diagnostics.
- Experience with PCR sample preparation techniques is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Familiarity with nucleic acid extraction methods and PCR workflows.
- Proficiency in pipetting techniques and aseptic sample handling.
- Basic knowledge of laboratory information systems (LIS) and data entry.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
- Effective communication and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with real-time PCR (qPCR), digital PCR (dPCR), or multiplex PCR.
- Knowledge of laboratory automation and liquid-handling systems.
- Familiarity with clinical and diagnostic regulatory guidelines (CLIA, CAP, FDA, etc.).
