AURA has an immediate opening for a full-time, Technician II position. The successful candidate will work side-by-side with our engineering staff in our lab in RTP, North Carolina.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful Technician II candidate will have a background in electronics and test techniques.  Knowledge of certification testing techniques (UL, ANSI, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461) is very desirable.  This position will support the electrical and mechanical engineering team in developing and testing products. 

The Technician II will operate highly sophisticated and expensive machines with complex process variables that must be monitored and adjusted to yield an acceptable outcome. You will be working very closely with AURA Engineers to assist in designing, developing and manufacturing the Technical Data Package (TDP) and part requirements that can and will be used by both in-house and industry AM machining centers to fabricate production parts for US DOD Customers. The successful candidate will also have a proven track record of meeting the prescribed timelines of the work schedule.

Working with the electrical engineering team to develop state-of-the-art electronics, the successful candidate will do some assembly work at the circuit board level, including soldering and testing with lab test equipment under the guidance of one of our EE design engineers.


Tasks include:

·        Assembling, installing, repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic components and systems, SMT, through-hole, rework, and deadbug.

·        Electrical measurements with multimeter and oscilloscope.  Spectrum Analyzer a plus.

·        Sourcing or fabricating replacement parts for electronic systems

·        Carrying out scheduled preventative maintenance and servicing equipment.

·        Interpreting drawings, training manuals, and instructions to perform duties.

·        Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly tools and work area

·        Continuous learning in new products, skills techniques from colleagues and manufacturers

·        Completing all required paperwork and documentation

·        Operating metal and plastics AM machines to manufacture parts, performing equipment set-up and powder changeovers, conducting maintenance on machines, monitoring build processes and managing the part post processing methodologies.

·        Other duties as needed or required

 

WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Education: Associate degree in an engineering discipline highly desired but not required. Certification as a machinist or journeyman machinist is highly desired but not required. 

Work Experience: 3 – 5 years of electronic and test experience.  It is desirable to have AM and/or subtractive manufacturing experience. 2-3 years of experience assembling and testing circuit boards is also highly desired. 1 -2 years of experience with engineering lab inventory management.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • WASP Inventory control software knowledge (or comparable)
  • Ability to rework PCBs and solder 0402 SMD sized components. Experience with soldering and circuit board testing is mandatory.
  • Capable of operating and managing every aspect of an R&D workshop area (including but not limited to hand and power tools, workbenches, shop inventory, 3D printers, thermal chamber)
  • Maintenance of engineering lab equipment and management of device calibration records
  • Experience with requesting quotes and ordering parts & supplies
  • Familiar with regulatory agency certification procedures and protocols (UL, ETL, FCC, FDA, ISO)
  • Continuously operating with a safety-first mentality
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Proficient in wearing many hats and contributing to multiple teams & projects
  • Comfortable sharing innovative project insights/ideas with engineering team

 

HIGHLY DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Altium Designer software knowledge
  • CAD software experience (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Fusion 360, OnShape, Creo)
  • Highly proficient with electronic testing devices (DMM, power supply, oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, light & sound meters, data acquisition devices…etc.)
  • Familiarity with military and/or DOD project protocols
  • Knowledge of EAR and ITAR regulations
  • Solid understanding of the concept-to-creation process of R&D engineering
  • Prior experience writing, performing and documenting electronics testing to certification standards
  • Experience in an Additive Manufacturing (AM) environment within the aerospace or defense industry
  • Experience with Sharepoint and the Microsoft suite of tools.

  • Candidates must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visa status  
  • SECURITY CLEARANCE: The successful candidate must already have, or be able to obtain once employed by AURA, a US Government Secret-level clearance. The successful candidate must maintain the clearance during the duration of their employment, which is a requirement of this position. The US Government generally only grants clearances to US citizens who are free from major criminal convictions. Individuals not meeting these two criteria will most likely not be granted a US Government security clearance.
