Our Client, a global energy and commodities trading firm is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented professional to join its Contracts team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, supporting the full lifecycle of trade deals. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate contract management across various commodity transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end contract process for physical commodity trades
- Draft, issue, and follow up on outgoing contracts
- Review, reconcile, and confirm incoming contracts from counterparties and brokers
- Verify the accuracy of contractual and deal-related data
- Communicate with counterparties and internal stakeholders to resolve contract discrepancies
- Maintain organized records of all contractual communications
- Support internal control activities and ad-hoc reporting
- Participate in process optimization and system enhancement initiatives
- Assist in testing new contract system functionalities and application updates
- Contribute to project work as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, maritime management, or a related field; or equivalent experience as a qualified paralegal within the commodity trading or shipping sectors
- 3-5 years of experience drafting, reviewing, and revising commodity purchase and sale contracts
- Proven knowledge of contracts involving vessel, barge, and terminal/storage logistics, with a clear understanding of modality-specific terms
- Strong familiarity with contract language for physical crude and refined products
- Working knowledge of industry-standard terms and conditions related to marine transportation
- Understanding of commodity shipping documents such as bills of lading
- Knowledge of Incoterms and their contractual application
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in vessel or barge operations
- Exposure to demurrage claims processes
- Familiarity with contracts involving truck, rail, or pipeline transportation
- Understanding of environmental compliance contracts (e.g., RINs, LCFS)
