Job Summary:

At Aurora Charter School, we believe our greatest resource is the people who form our team.   The Reading Interventionist Teacher under the supervision of the Executive Director is responsible for providing direct instructional services to students who are not meeting grade level proficiency in either reading or math. This position requires close collaboration with classroom teachers and the District Assessment Coordinator.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with grade level teachers to develop and implement plans for expected student growth throughout the year. 
  • Develop differentiated instruction techniques to ensure students are appropriately engaged and challenged, as well as to accommodate various learning styles, personality styles, and the need for physical movement. 
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Provide a variety of opportunities for students to achieve mastery while working to promote achievement by all students without exception. 
  • Provide corrective feedback to students and re-teach as necessary to ensure that students have mastered the objectives. 
  • Use data to inform grade level teams, assist in analysis and interpretation of progress. 
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Collaborates with other staff members, participates in faculty meetings, Aurora professional development opportunities and committees.
  • Participates in various student and parent activities which occur in school including curriculum nights, parent/teacher conferences  and school events. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.    

Required Skills/Abilities:    

  • Bilingual English and Spanish desired but not required
  • Knowledge of current best practice related to academic interventions in reading 
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of student learning styles
  • Knowledge of current assessment tools and ability to analyze student performance data
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all internal and external individuals who support our students and families 

Education and Experience:

  • Elementary K-6 teaching or reading license or the ability to obtain one
  • Reading Intervention experience
  • Must satisfactorily pass a criminal background check, and must comply with organizational and district policies. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Required to lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a minimum of 35 pounds.  
  • Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis.
  • Required to perform repetitive physical tasks such as computer keyboarding, writing, and reading
