What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hostler - Blue Nights (12 hour shift) position at Aurora Dairy Corp.?
1. PURPOSE:
The Hostler position is responsible for moving all trailers necessary for production. They will be “closing,” inspecting, and moving trailers in the lot to provide seamless production in the plant.
2. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- All plant personnel have the responsibility to monitor and report any deviations from our Food Safety and Food Quality (HACCP & SQF) programs to your immediate supervisor.
- Conform to all safety rules and using all appropriate safety equipment
- Inspect the trailers – To include: milk tanks, material trailers, box etc.
- Move all trailers during shift, always ensuring an adequate number of trailers in the dock doors, raw milk is supplied to the receivers, and packaging is delivered to the dry warehouse and cooler.
- "Close" loaded trailers and do all associated paperwork, including shipping exceptions, signing off on shipments, etc.
- Yard Dog safety inspections.
- Yard dog maintenance - i.e. standard vehicle checks (fuel, oil levels, air filter, fluids).
- Daily trailer inventories – ensuring an adequate number of trailers and pallets. This will include trailer security and maintaining the material tracking board.
- Willing to work outside in the elements (hot/cold/rain/etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
3. OTHER REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES:
As directed by Warehouse Supervisor or Lead.

5. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous yard dog experience required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.

- -able to assume new responsibilities and to work independently.
- Honest with a strong work ethic.
6. Physical Requirements:
Must possess the physical ability to work the entire shift in the plant’s cool, wet environment with temperatures ranging between 34-38 degrees or outside in adverse weather conditions will be a requirement. Standing, walking, climbing, repetitive bending, repetitive stooping, repetitive reaching with arms and repetitive grasping with hands and fingers. Must have the ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment working around production machines, warehouse equipment, forklifts, large trucks and tankers.
