Aurora Energy, LLC is hiring a district heat manager/senior engineer for its downtown Fairbanks power plant.
Job Summary:
The District Heat Manager will ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our district heating system. This hands-on leadership role encompasses managing daily maintenance, troubleshooting, resource optimization, and contributing to capital project planning and execution. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in energy management, district heating, and project management, working closely with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the maintenance and performance of the district heating system to ensure optimal operation and minimal downtime.
- Plan, budget, and manage a comprehensive maintenance program, including system sampling plans.
- Manage resource allocation, track budgets, and ensure cost-efficient system operations.
- Lead daily system maintenance, including troubleshooting, reactive repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Develop and execute maintenance schedules for steam and hot water heating infrastructure.
- Serve as the primary contact for district heating customer service requests and technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Lead or assist in planning and executing capital projects such as system upgrades, expansions, and infrastructure improvements.
- Collaborate with utilities, government agencies, and external partners for coordinated service delivery.
- Monitor energy consumption, identify efficiency improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions.
- Prepare detailed reports on system performance, maintenance activities, and project progress.
- Provide engineering design or investigative support for plant and district heating systems.
- Conduct cost/benefit analyses for long-term plans and maintain a prioritized list of future projects and major maintenance activities.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, energy management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum of 5 years in district heating, steam systems, or related energy systems, with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Proven experience in project management, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and overseeing capital projects.
- Strong technical knowledge of steam and hot water heating systems, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with energy regulations and safety standards in the heating or energy sector.
- Effective leadership and communication skills for internal team coordination and external partnerships.
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions when necessary.
- PE certification in Alaska is a plus.
- PMP or similar project management certification is a plus.
- Possess a valid Alaska Driver’s License
- Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills required
- Must pass a post-offer physical and drug test
