The Aurora R-VIII School District is seeking an inspirational and dynamic Head Football Coach to lead the Aurora High School Houn’ Dawg football program. Aurora is a founding member of the Big 8 Conference, one of the most competitive and respected football conferences in Missouri. With a rich tradition of success and a 2019 induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, Aurora High School football is built on a legacy of hard work, discipline, and community pride.
We are looking for a motivational leader who can cultivate a championship culture, develop student-athletes both on and off the field, and continue the strong tradition of excellence within the program.
Position: High School Head Football Coach
- School: Aurora High School
- Classification: Full-time with teaching responsibilities (subject to certification and experience)
- Reports To: Athletic Director & High School Principal
- Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Leadership & Development:
- Lead and oversee all aspects of the Aurora High School football program (grades 9-12).
- Foster a winning culture that emphasizes discipline, teamwork, and student-athlete development.
- Uphold and build upon Aurora’s football legacy within the Big 8 Conference and at the state level.
- Athletic Development & Coaching:
- Implement a comprehensive year-round strength & conditioning program to enhance player performance.
- Develop high-energy, competitive practices that focus on skill development and game preparation.
- Utilize modern offensive and defensive strategies while adapting to player strengths.
- Promote a multi-sport athlete philosophy, encouraging overall athletic growth.
- Mentorship & Player Growth:
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes, emphasizing academic success, character, and leadership.
- Support student-athletes in the college recruiting process and scholarship opportunities.
- Promote sportsmanship and community involvement within the program.
- Staff & Program Management:
- Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-quality coaching staff.
- Coordinate with youth and middle school programs to develop a seamless feeder system.
- Maintain effective communication with administration, parents, and the Aurora community.
- Game Preparation & Competition:
- Develop effective game plans that maximize team strengths.
- Study film, scout opponents, and implement innovative strategies for success in the Big 8 Conference.
- Ensure athletes are mentally and physically prepared for competition.
Qualifications:
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Missouri teaching certificate (subject area determined by applicant’s credentials).
- Prior head coaching experience is preferred, but highly successful coordinators will be considered.
- Proven ability to develop and implement a strength & conditioning program.
- Strong knowledge of game strategy, player development, and leadership principles.
- Effective communication, organization, and motivational skills.
- Commitment to academic excellence and student success.
- Ability to foster relationships with alumni, boosters, and community supporters.
- Experience with fundraising, program budgeting, and resource management is a plus.
