The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Manager of Water Systems Engineering in the Water Production Division / Public Works Department.
Under direction of the Manager of Waster System Engineering and Superintendent of Water Production, this role reviews and develops plans, specifications, construction documents, studies, estimates of probable cost, and reports for potable water treatment, supply, and storage infrastructure. This role also provides technical guidance, opinions and designs for specific water treatment and raw source water collection infrastructure. Additionally, this role assists with research projects, studies, reports, and consultant and construction management.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to : Assist with the preliminary planning, design / specification, public advertising, and construction of infrastructure capital improvements and maintenance / repair projects for potable water treatment infrastructure systems and facilities; Perform detailed hydraulic analyses of various water, chemical, and slurry piping and dosing systems used for water treatment as well as detailed analyses and designs of pumps and their variable controls; Perform detailed financial / accounting analyses for the development of municipal water rates; Assists in preparing cost estimates and associated budget documents for capital improvements of potable water treatment infrastructure; Negotiate agreements / contracts with external engineering consultants; Prepare construction schedules and preliminary estimates of cost for potential projects; Review project construction documentation such as shop drawings submittals, change orders, and pay requests; Manage and perform water system analysis for fire flows and water main sizing; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a bachelor's degree in civil / environmental engineering from four-year ABET accredited college or university. This position also requires a minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, construction, and project management of potable water treatment, supply, and storage infrastructure. The candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and possess a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The annual salary range is $96,761.60 - $130,020.80 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range
