The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director - Curator of Public Art in the Community Services Department.
Under general direction of the Chief Community Service Officer or designee, this role leads, develops, and manages the city's public art initiatives. This role manages the city's gallery including curating exhibits as well as expanding and maintaining outdoor murals and sculptures. The director / curator will contribute to the city's cultural landscape by planning and promoting events that reflect the diversity and spirit of the community. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintaining collections, budgeting, and serves as the liaison to the Aurora Public Art Commission.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to : Develop and implement the city's public art strategy; Create and manage an annual budget; Curate and facilitate exhibitions; Lead the conceptualization, planning, and execution of large-scale outdoor temporary and permanent murals and sculptures; Foster partnerships with community leaders, local and international artists, schools, and cultural organizations; Develop and manage educational programs; Prepare and submit reports and presentations for city council, press, and other stakeholders; Serve as the liaison to the Aurora Public Art Commission; Coordinate fundraising activities as needed; Responsible for managing the hiring, development, supervision, and training of staff; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a bachelor's degree in art administration, fine arts, urban planning, or related field; master's degree preferred. This position also requires a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in arts administration or public art project management, including a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Must possess a valid driver's license.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to City Council appointment, physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, executive position. The salary range is $73,528.00 - $98,716.80 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range.
