In accordance with Aurora’s mission, vision, and values, the Executive Director is accountable to the Board of Directors and provides inspiring leadership to ensure the strength and growth of Aurora’s programs and services to meet the needs of our constituency and the community. The Executive Director provides leadership to the agency’s strategic direction, serves as chief development officer, and supports the team to prevent and end homelessness in Evansville and the surrounding community
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership and Strategic Planning:
o Communicates a clear and compelling vision that is widely supported and effectively implemented. o Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve the organization's mission. o Provide vision and direction to the organization, inspiring staff and volunteers. o Creates an internal culture that supports the mission and promotes collaboration. o Collaborate with the board of directors to set goals and ensure alignment. o Develops and implements the agency’s policies and programs in conjunction with the Board of Directors. o Educates the community about and promotes awareness of homelessness and poverty. o Monitors cutting-edge research on issues of homelessness to inform the vision of the agency for the future.
Operational Management:
o Manage day-to-day operations with Programs and Finance & HR Directors ensuring efficient and effective delivery of programs and services. o Supervise Administrative staff, including hiring, training, and performance management. o Ensures the attainment of the agency’s objectives through the selection, development, motivation, and evaluation of personnel. o Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. o Knowledge of legal issues related to non-profit corporations such as board responsibilities and liability and obtaining and maintaining non-profit and tax-exempt status with appropriate state and federal entities
Fundraising and Development:
o Lead fundraising efforts, including identifying and cultivating donors, writing grants, and organizing events. o Provides executive oversight and strategic direction regarding development and fundraising efforts and provides appropriate support for efforts such as major donor programs, planned giving, special events, and capital campaigns. o Approaches potential donors and serves as an active fundraiser responsible for growing and diversifying funding sources. o Effectively stewards current and future donors by progressively deepening relationships to help maximize retention and increase giving levels.
Stakeholder Relations:
o Serves as the primary spokesperson of the organization and promotes the mission and services to the public, media, and other stakeholders. o Advocates for the homeless and low-income residents of the community to government, corporate, nonprofit, and philanthropic entities on local, state and possibly national levels. o Acts as liaison between the agency, its clients, and the resource community for service delivery. o Facilitates dialogue, networking, and partnerships among the agency, its clients, and the community (including government, corporate, non-profit, and philanthropic entities).
Board Relations:
o Works with the Board of Directors to support and assist with the Board’s governance. o Maintains a transparent relationship with the Board and works collaboratively with them to set the strategic direction and policies of the organization. o Attends monthly Board of Directors’ meetings and provides regular reports to the Board of Directors regarding the organization’s progress, activities, and challenges. o Works in close association with Board committees. o Delivers financial and other requested information to the Treasurer of the Board of Directors. o Serves the Board by cultivating prospects, providing ongoing education and creating in service opportunities. o Performs other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Program Development and Evaluation:
o Oversee the development and implementation of programs and services. o Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and services, using data to inform decision-making
Financial Management:
o Develops and manages the agency budget in conjunction with the Development Director and Board Treasurer, and as approved by the Board of Directors. o In coordination with the Director of Programs, assures that services are provided in a cost effective manner while maintaining a high level of quality. o Provides accurate financial reports and budget to the Board. o Seeks, reviews, and assures compliance with grants and contracts from public and private sources. o Develops and implements internal controls to mitigate risks and maintain the security and efficacy of the agency’s assets.
