Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR), deeply rooted in our diverse community, seeks a dynamic Safety and Security Director to lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and security program across all AMHR facilities. This leadership role focuses on workplace violence prevention, risk assessment, physical security, emergency preparedness, and staff training, ensuring a safe and secure environment for clients and employees. Schedule. This position will work Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, and is eligible for a hybrid model that allows for a mix of remote and in-office work, with an expectation of being in the office four days per week and working from home one day. This schedule may be adjusted based on training, department, client and community needs.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program that includes risk assessments, safety protocols, training initiatives, and incident reporting procedures.
- Conduct Risk Assessments: Conduct regular and thorough risk assessments of all AMHR facilities to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities. Develop and implement mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
- Oversee Security Measures: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of physical security measures, including access control systems, surveillance cameras, alarm systems, and security personnel and security supervisor. Ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and standards.
- Develop and Deliver Training: Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all staff on topics such as workplace violence prevention, de-escalation techniques, emergency response protocols, and trauma-informed care specific to employee title, level and location.
- Manage Incident Reporting and Investigation: Develop and implement a robust system for reporting, investigating, and analyzing workplace violence incidents and near-misses. Identify trends and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Collaborate with facility directors, department heads, and front-line staff to ensure effective communication and implementation of safety protocols. Build relationships with local law enforcement, emergency responders, and community partners.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including medical emergencies, fires, natural disasters, and active threat situations. Conduct regular drills and simulations to ensure staff preparedness.
- Policy Development and Compliance: Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures that comply with all applicable regulations and standards (OSHA, HIPAA, etc.). Ensure that all staff are trained on and adhere to these policies.
- Occupational Safety: Work with SMEs with Infection Prevention, Chemical and Biological Hazards, and Ergonomic Risk Factors
- Promote a Safety Culture: Foster a culture of safety awareness and responsibility across all AMHR locations. Empower staff to identify and report safety concerns and actively participate in safety initiatives.
- Responsible for prioritization of Safety-related projects
- Ensures Safety budget is prioritized and adhered to Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the safety and security program through data analysis, staff feedback, and industry best practices.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is required. Masters degree is preferred.
- Strongly prefer industry safety certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST), etc.
- 5 years of experience in a safety and security role, preferably in a healthcare or mental health setting, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership role with direct reports
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs and training initiatives.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and standards (OSHA, HIPAA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of workplace violence prevention principles and best practices.
- Expertise in conducting risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Required Vaccination.
AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to receive an annual influenza (flu) shot prior to their first day of hire. Proof of current flu shot will be required upon your first day of employment. Medical or religious exemptions may be requested.
Salary for this role.
Salary is based on 1.0 FTE (full-time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Fewer than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE. Salary is also based on years of experience and company equity.
