Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Safety Support Professional also known as Security Officer to join our Facilities Team. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment for our clients and staff across multiple facilities. As a key team member, you will provide first-line response to escalated situations, proactively identify security concerns, and support the well-being of clients enrolled in outpatient services. The ideal candidate brings experience in security and safety, preferably within healthcare or mental health settings, and excels in de-escalation, crisis response, and trauma-informed care. Schedule:
- Full-time, on-site position (Monday – Friday, 8-hour shifts between 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM with a one hour lunch break).
- Flexibility required to cover other shifts or provide additional presence at multiple locations when needed.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the safety and security of AMHR staff, clients, and property.
- Proactively identify, investigate, and address security concerns, disturbances, and incidents.
- Respond to escalated situations, utilizing verbal de-escalation and physical management techniques as needed.
- Engage with clients and staff to support therapeutic conflict resolution and prevent crisis escalation.
- Assist in the transportation of escalated clients or those in crisis when necessary.
- Monitor and control facility access, conduct patrols, and operate security systems (e.g., surveillance cameras, alarms).
- Act within legal and ethical guidelines to ensure safety, including detaining violators when necessary.
- Facilitate and participate in safety drills and multi-disciplinary meetings.
- Provide clear, detailed reports on security incidents and safety concerns.
- Promote a safety-first culture, training staff in best practices for security awareness and de-escalation.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
- 1-3 years of experience in a security, safety, or related role required.
- Behavioral health, law enforcement, military, or crisis response experience strongly preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record; must be able to drive in various weather conditions.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques, situational awareness, and crisis intervention.
- Strong ability to assess, communicate, and respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Skilled in problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. and work in a physically active role.
- Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical standards.
Required Vaccinations and TB Test.
AMHR has prioritized the health and safety of our clients and staff and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19, receive an annual influenza (flu) shot, and receive negative TB test results prior to their first day of hire. Proof of both vaccinations and negative TB test will be required upon your first day of employment. Medical and religious exemptions may be requested for either COVID 19 vaccine, annual flu shot or TB test.
Salary for this role. The starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.
- $18.87 - $27.32 per hour
