TOSA, Early Childhood Education

Days/Hours: As designated by the district or school. - Days: 187-day position (new teachers
190-day position (paid summer training opportunities available)

General Description: The Early Childhood Instructional TOSA coaches preschool facilitators on the instructional skills necessary to ensure that learning is accelerated for every student. The Early Childhood Instructional TOSA will provide support to
Preschool facilitators around developmentally appropriate practices in the
Early Childhood classroom and support teachers on delivering instruction in foundational literacy skills grounded in the science of reading.

The Early Childhood Instructional. Will work directly with preschool facilitators in their classroom to provide instructional support and coaching around classroom management, content knowledge and developmentally appropriate practices. Early Childhood Instructional TOSA will monitor implementation and report on the progress of professional development provided by the Early Learning Consultants. Evidence of the effectiveness of the Early Childhood Instructional TOSA will be demonstrated through the observed increases in the instructional effectiveness of facilitators and in the student achievement outcomes that are the result of their work.

Responsibilities: Develop a community of effectiveness for teaching and learning by:

  • Creating an effective context in each school environment by engaging in a climate of trust, respect, collaboration, and continuous growth and building relationships with preschool educators and building administration.
  • Establishing and maintaining professional relationships and demonstrating the capacity to motivate the learning and progress of teachers.

Develop instructional coaching by:

  • Participating in monthly district-wide Coaching Cadre sessions and attending other professional learning opportunities for Instructional

TOSAs

  • Utilizing a coaching cycle to observe, model, and provide reflection for preschool facilitators.
  • Possessing a strong understanding of and being able to clearly and concisely articulate information related to the Colorado Academic

Standards, effective curricular and pedagogical design and implementation, and the role of formative and summative assessments in early childhood.

Facilitate instructional coaching by:

  • Engaging Early Childhood Education (ECE) facilitators in job- embedded coaching experiences by modeling, observing, supporting, and reflecting with teachers in a manner that is strengths-based and addresses the needs of both the student and the teacher.
  • Ensuring opportunities for ECE facilitators to examine their practice through reflection, mentoring and effective coaching
  • Modeling universal and targeted (multi-tiered) instructional practices through co-planning and co-teaching activities.>
  • Providing actionable feedback to ECE facilitators and monitoring for the implementation of learned practices
  • Promoting instructional practices that ensure ECE facilitators differentiate the learning experience for their students and engage all students.
  • Supporting the implementation of district-wide strategies, such as learning targets; data-driven teaching and learning cycles and learning walks.

Collaborate with the Early Learning Team by:

  • Participating in professional learning experiences at the district level alongside the Early Childhood Facilitators that may include supporting small group engagement and facilitators in using classroom data to plan effective instruction.
  • Engage in weekly collaboration meetings with the Early Learning

Consultants to help ensure that supports for facilitators are aligned and coherent.

Qualifications: Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Holds a Colorado teaching license in the areas of Early Childhood

Education, or Early Childhood Special Education, related field

  • PDIS level 4 or higher, or ability to get PDIS leveled
  • Minimum 5 years teaching in Early Childhood or related experience
  • Previous coaching experience
  • A completed Human Resources file including transcripts, student teaching verification, and previous work experience
  • Successful experiences in a teacher-leader role or other position with similar responsibilities

Strategic Plan: The teacher shall identify the development needs of students, shall maintain a productive learning environment, and shall work collaboratively to support the priorities of the Strategic Plan.

Condition of As a condition of employment, the individual selected for this position will be
Employment: expected to complete the APS-sponsored Linguistically Diverse Educator (LDE)

Certificate Program within the first three years of employment.
