Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead our accounting function. The CAO will be responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. This role will also focus on upgrading the company’s financial systems, managing a high-performing accounting team, and partnering with business unit presidents to drive financial performance and strategic decision-making. This is a hybrid role, requiring 2 days of the week in our Mt Laurel, NJ location, with travel to our business units in Pennsylvania on an as needed basis. The position reports directly to the CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the accounting function, including financial reporting, internal controls, tax compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive the upgrade and enhancement of financial systems to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Refine, develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls as needed to ensure financial integrity and compliance.
- Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Collaborate closely with business unit presidents to provide financial insights, support strategic initiatives, and drive business performance.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP,
- Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team on financial strategy, risk management, and corporate initiatives.
- Oversee audits and liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize accounting operations and reporting efficiency.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
- 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven experience in upgrading and implementing financial systems and accounting technology.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop high-performing accounting teams.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with 401Ks is mandatory, experience with an ESOP is preferred, not required.
- Experience in working closely with business leaders to support strategic goals and decision-making.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in complex and evolving business environments.
