REPORTS TO: General Counsel
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- General autonomy and authority to handle most legal matters. Advises management on legal matters and ensures compliancy to protect company against legal liability in such areas as, but not limited to:
- Employment and labor law
- Workers compensation
- Unemployment compensation
- Torts including personal injury cases
- Contract drafting, review and compliance
- Contract disputes
- Real estate transactions
- Environmental law
- Intellectual property
- Federal/State/Local regulatory issues
- Day-to-day responsibilities shall include:
- Transactional work to support legal filings, reportings and documentation.
- Litigation including pre-trial, trial and appeals
- Management and oversight of outside counsel when so engaged
- Additional authorities and responsibilities will be assigned by the General Counsel on an as needed basis
- Act as a Compliance Champion for the organization and work to promote a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
- Monitoring for changes in, and making recommendations for improvements to comply with laws, rules, regulations, and policies that govern business activities in your department or subject area.
- Assist in compliance risk assessments and risk reporting in accordance with the Company’s risk assessment program.
- Developing, providing, and documenting compliance training.
- Compliance monitoring, surveillance, and auditing efforts, and assisting in investigations of suspected compliance violations.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- JD from accredited law school required
- Six or more years experience working as an attorney required
- Litigation experience preferred
- Advanced legal research and writing skills required
- Licensed to practice law in Alabama and a member in good standing of the Alabama State Bar required
