What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crane and Rigging Manager position at Austal USA LLC?
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations
SUPERVISES: Crane, Rigging, and Forklift Operator Personnel
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage Crane operators.
- Manage riggers.
- Manage forklift operators.
- Be responsible for training and certification of crane operators, riggers and forklift operators.
- Oversee all heavy lifts and movements.
- Maintain all certificates for lifting equipment and gear.
- Responsible for the inspection of all lifting gear and equipment.
- Oversees sourcing and distributing of information to Foremen
- Oversees liaising with and directing outside contractors
- Accountable for monitoring resource levels and the distribution of these resources
- Oversees the maintenance of safe working practices and good housekeeping in all areas and ensures Austal’s policies are being followed
- Accountable for ensuring all Foremen under their control are complying to the Ten Fundamental Rules of Supervision
- Provide constant feedback to Foreman regarding: Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, Morale
- Oversees all timesheets are processed and allocated daily
- Provides motivation, maintains morale and minimizes confrontation
- Review and recommend day rates in conjunction with Foremen
- Maintain succession plan. Identify Key personnel and implement training programs
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
- Must have at least 10 years experience in crane and rigging operations
- Must be a certified crane operator and forklift driver
- Shipbuilding experience preferred
TOOLS: Not applicable
DIRECTION EXERCISED: Full discretionary authority to assign work
DISCRETION EXERCISED: Full discretionary authority to correct and discipline, recommend pay increase, transfers, promotions, discharges, and process grievances
LIAISES WITH: All production departments, Site Services, and Supply Chain
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

- No felony convictions of Theft/Deception or Violent crimes within seven years from disposition date
- No felony convictions of Drug crimes within three years from disposition date
