Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing Austin youth to attend and excel at top universities.


As the operational leader of the school, the Assistant Principal of Operations (APO) reports directly to the Senior Director of School Operations and works closely with the school Principal on the Campus Leadership Team. The APO is responsible for all non-instructional matters required to run the school, which allows the Principal to focus almost exclusively on teaching and learning. The APO also serves as the primary campus liaison to Operations Leads on the district Shared Service Team (SST) to ensure close coordination of services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


School Operations

  • Serves as the eyes and ears of the campus to ensure all school operations run seamlessly
  • Completes required action items for scholar enrollment changes including new enrollments, schedule changes, and withdrawals
  • Coordinates, implements, and reports on various campus surveys
  • Supports campus communications to families and staff
  • Manages staff calendar
  • Oversees and supports logistics for field trips and special events
  • Manages training of staff and scholars for emergency procedures and conducts emergency drills
  • In collaboration with the SST Facilities department, ensures campus facilities are clean and properly maintained
  • In collaboration with the SST Child Nutrition department, manages breakfast, lunch, and supper food service processes including the recording of scholar participation
  • In collaboration with the SST Transportation department, coordinates scholar arrival and dismissal procedures by defining traffic flows and setting and managing staff duty schedules
  • Coordinates Campus Leadership Team participation in revising, editing, and disseminating the Parent & Scholar Handbook
  • On an annual basis, works with the SST Operations team to prepare the school for the new school year
  • - this work includes ordering furniture, equipment, and classroom supplies, and ensuring school services (including Child Nutrition, Transportation, IT) are ready for action


Academics Support

  • Oversees and supports implementation of campus master schedule
  • Creates and manages scholar cohort assignments and course enrollments
  • Manages logistical elements of the LPAC process (Language Proficiency Assessment Committee), including: confirming Emergent Bilingual status of all scholars, assessing eligible scholars new to Texas schools, creating and maintaining required paperwork, ensuring compliance of required participants in all LPAC meetings, and communicating with SST Data & Compliance Team to ensure accurate statuses are coded in the Student Information System and reported for PEIMS
  • Oversees school report card process, including: serving as expert on campus grading policies, auditing gradebook, verifying final term grades, and preparing and distributing report cards


State Assessment

  • Performs the duties of the state-designated Campus Testing Coordinator for state assessment programs (i.e. STAAR, TELPAS)
  • Trains campus staff on procedures and guidelines of the state assessment programs, including materials management, confidentiality, and test security
  • Coordinates state assessment programs including registering students, scheduling assessment logistics, and managing distribution and collection of secure and non-secure testing materials
  • Maintains processes for testing irregularity and incident reporting that include investigations as warranted and/or directed
  • Oversees and implements campus administration of MAP assessments
  • May oversee other assessments as required by state and local policies


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Hires, manages, and coaches the front office Receptionist
  • Supports SST Data & Attendance Coordinator in managing campus attendance reporting processes, including: ensuring timely daily reporting of attendance by teachers, communicating with and holding families accountable for scholar attendance, and supporting truancy prevention process
  • Approves and monitors Front Office purchasing and budgets, e.g. copy paper, general office supplies, first aid items


Data & Compliance

  • Serves as the school-level expert on the Student Information System
  • Works closely with SST Data & Compliance Team to ensure that:
  • Scholar and staff data in the Student Information System is accurate and up to date
  • The school is adhering to all local and state compliance and reporting requirements


Human Resources

  • Collaborates with the SST Human Resources department and Operations team on the new hire process and staff exit procedures
  • In collaboration with Principal, manages campus time-off procedures and communicates critical dates
  • On an annual basis, provides feedback for the revising and editing of the AAPS Employee Handbook with the assistance of the SST Operations team


Other duties as assigned

  • Due to the nature of this role, the candidate must be flexible and prepared to take on additional responsibilities as needs arise.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or graduate degree is a plus
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience in education and/or business or operations management
  • Advanced proficiency in Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel, Google Docs/Microsoft Word, Google Slides/Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written skills
  • Strong project and time management skills; ability to backwards plan effectively, juggle multiple priorities with great attention to detail, and deliver consistent and timely results
  • Team player with strong interpersonal and stakeholder management and relationship building skills
  • Spanish/English bilingualism preferred

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrate fine motor skills for activities like writing, cutting, and using technology.
  • Maintain energy and stamina to engage actively with scholars throughout the day.
  • Respond quickly to the physical needs of children in a classroom or outdoor setting.
  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • This job can only be performed in person and is not eligible for remote or off-site work.
