Summary:

Keeps plant facilities in clean and orderly condition by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Uses chipping devices to knock slag from piece/parts that have been cut by the torches.

Completes this on all sides of the steel piece/parts.

Loads plates onto torch tables using overhead cranes and adjusting clamps safely.

Removes finished pieces and scraps from torch tables to the next work station, proper storage area, or waste bins.

Assists machine operations in Steel Preparation area.

Arranges boxes, material, handtrucks, cleaning supplies and equipment, or other industrial equipment in neat and orderly manner.

Cleans offices, multipurpose rooms, walkways, rest rooms, corridors, stairways, locker rooms and other work areas.

Sweeps, mops, picks up, scrubs and sanitizes as required on a daily basis.

Pushes broom over all walkways of fabrication facility to remove dust, metal and paint metal particulate.

Cleans coffee urns and makes coffee for production workers.

Dusts furniture and equipment.

Polishes metalwork and mirrors.

Uses shovel to clean steel fragments and shavings off of torch tables or fabrication floor.

Spray paints appropriate color on finished steel for various color coded production lines.

Selects proper plates for cutting by reading blueprints.

Identifies correct parts by body size.

Understands proper usage of hand torches.

Ignites hand torch with flint and uses to cut scrap metal into smaller pieces for easier removal.

Cleans floors in working area as required.

Empties wastebaskets and empties and cleans ashtrays.

Transports trash in bags to disposal area.

Moves dumpsters on metal wheels to landing outside of buildings.

Maintains water and drinking supplies for production workers.

Replenishes bathroom supplies.

Replaces light bulbs.

Performs general yard work and performs snow removal as needed.

Complies with all applicable company policies and safety guidelines.

Performs other routine duties as instructed.


Other Duties:

Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner to minimize fire, tripping, and other safety hazards.

Employees are held accountable for all duties of this job performed in environmental conditions applicable to the location of the work site.

Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:

Personal Protective Equipment:

ANSI approved steel-toed boots, ANSI approved safety glasses with side protectors, and ANSI approved class B hard hat and hearing protection are to be used. Welding hood, welding leathers, face shield, cutting goggles, fall protection devices and gloves are used as needed. Disposable respirators, and ANSI approved steel-toed boots with metatarsal guards are recommended.


Educations and/or Experience:

No prior experience or training.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, label directions and warnings. Ability to write simple correspondence and speak simple sentences.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight or linear measurement.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand while balancing, leaning or bending and reaching with hands and arms over counters or tables while dusting and wiping furniture and mirrors, walk while pushing broom or while carrying cleaning supplies and equipment, use arms and hands to pull open doors, hands to grasp handles and bottles while pulling trigger with finger(s), or feel objects or tools.

The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while picking up debris, trash, and cleaning equipment and while cleaning toilets, feel while performing tasks for sharp edges, hot spots and other hazards.

The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs and balance while carrying cleaning equipment, and talk or hear for hazard warnings and general communication.

The employee must regularly lift and/or push or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or push or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus to observe safety guidelines and to determine what needs to be cleaned or picked up.

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Heavy steel fabrication facility with constant steel cutting, hammering, welding and grinding of steel. The temperature in the fabrication facility is influenced by weather temperatures throughout the year. Hot temperatures outside are exacerbated by heat from welding and cutting equipment. Extreme winter cold contributes to cool working conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and, where they exceed Permissible Exposure Limits, personal protective equipment is provided to minimize risk.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to water and common household cleaning chemicals (Windex, toilet bowl cleaners, etc.).

The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and occasionally operates electrical machinery and risks exposure to ultra-violet radiation from the welding arc.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud with occasional exposure to very loud noise levels while working in the fabrication shop. (The above constitutes guidelines to be used as a basis for employee classification. Management reserves the right to determine whether an employee meets the above qualifications by whatever means compatible with good practice.)


Monday - Thursday: 6am-4:30pm
Friday: 6am-2pm
