MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required in Physical Education, Sports Marketing, or a related
field in education. Experience or a desire to work in a major metropolitan school district is preferred. A valid Texas Teacher
certificate in the subject and level of assignment is required. In addition, individuals in core academic subject areas must
meet teacher requirements. Five (5) years of athletic-related experience is required. A valid Texas CDC Driver’s license is
required.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires general knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures and be able to interpret and enforce UIL
(University Interscholastic League) regulations and rules regarding competition and eligibility. Incumbent must have the
ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and encourage athletes to participate in multiple sports. This position
requires that the incumbent can use high level problem-solving skills. Incumbent must be able to communicate effectively
to community, media, and District personnel. Incumbent is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or
events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is
required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes; and
operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Incumbent must have the ability to work with a diversity of
individuals and/or groups by providing leadership, direction, team building, communicating with persons of varied
educational and cultural backgrounds and by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with individuals
from diverse professional backgrounds. Must be able to work independently under time constraints to meet deadlines and
schedules while at the same time, make accurate decisions with frequent interruptions and changing work priorities.

JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

This position will coordinate, oversee, and manage all areas of the Athletic program in the assigned school for the District.
Incumbent will provide instructional leadership as well as manage the day-to-day activities in assigned school. The Campus
Athletic Coordinator is responsible for organizing and assigning duties and responsibilities among the entire coaching staff.
Incumbent must be able to respond to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns,
parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed for the purpose of
identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
Incumbent may teach or coach one or more sections during the school year.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Keeps a line of communication open between campus administrators, coaches, parents, students, and teachers.
  • Keep up to date on UIL and Austin ISD Athletic policies and procedures for all sports. Provides required
information and data to District UIL Compliance Officer and the AISD Athletic Office.
  • Ensure all coaches and programs are UIL compliant at all times.
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and put in place instructional goals and objectives to ensure the
overall educational development of student athletes.
  • Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • Maintain, promote, and encourage academic success among all students.
  • Oversee the transportation preparation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town athletic events, as well as coordinate
the transportation for all local sporting events.
  • Attend meetings with District and Campus Athletic administrators and the coaching staff. Keep the line of
communication open between campus, District, and coaching staff.
  • Performs personnel administrative functions (e.g., hiring, counseling, training, supervising, evaluating, providing

professional development opportunities, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing
productivity of staff, and ensuring necessary department/program outcomes are achieved.

  • Assure that all eligibility lists and participation reports are submitted on time.
  • Organizes and assigns duties and responsibilities equitably, among the entire coaching staff.
  • Assist campus athletic trainer on athletic injuries and in administration of insurance.
  • Develop a consistent grade check system for the entire athletic program, informing athletes, parents, teachers,
and administrators of the procedures.
  • Collaborate with other Campus Athletic Coordinators to develop a written athletic policy for AISD campuses.
  • Work with feeder middle school athletic personnel and coaches to develop a common philosophy of the total
program.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuous evaluation of athletic program and make changes based on findings.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student
athletes in the assigned sport.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic
skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students’ athletic abilities initially and on an ongoing
basis.
  • Provide input on local budgets and allocate spending on items such team travel, equipment purchases, and facility
upkeep.
  • Coordinate with coaches about the scheduling of games and practices.
  • Collaborate with conferences and leagues about scheduling issues.
  • Speak with league officials about subjects such as postseason play.
  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.

  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations regarding academic requirements for scholarships and
recruiting practices.
  • Monitor and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, in accordance with Student
Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Encourage good sportsmanship in all phases of athletic participation.
  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program and ensure the process of cleaning, repairing, and
storing campus athletic equipment is followed.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains a workable situation in the assigned school by supervising the use of facilities and personnel.
  • Attend sporting events or assign a coach to help supervise the event.
  • Maintaining confidentiality; and facilitating communication between staff and student athletes.
  • Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices

that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare
situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position may involve frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, and low or
intense illumination vibration. It is expected that field trips, District wide, and statewide travel may be made. Incumbent
should be willing to contribute directly or indirectly to the development of children both inside and outside the classroom,
which may include working hours in addition to the regular school day. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or
body fluids. Services are generally provided within a standard classroom environment. Some movement throughout the
classroom is generally necessary to facilitate learning (e.g., standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, and/or kneeling).
Light lifting of materials and other objects associated with a classroom environment is required (e.g., books, teaching aids, up
to approximately 20 – 40 lbs.). Special Education teachers may also be required to pick up students, restrain students as
needed, and spend large quantities of time on the floor sitting, squatting, and/or kneeling. Incumbent must maintain
emotional control under stress and be able to work with frequent interruptions. Computer use is required, and prolonged use
may result in repetitive hand motion. Regular attendance is required for this position.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent reports directly to the Campus Principal. Incumbent will have frequent contact with campus and central staff.
Incumbent is expected to make decisions, prioritize, and perform work in a timely manner and solve problems without
consulting supervisor.
