MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. It is preferred that the incumbent is either currently enrolled in
postsecondary courses or earned a postsecondary degree. The incumbent must be comfortable working with a diverse
student population. All tutoring takes place during the school day, so tutor must be on time and reliable. Employment is
contingent on the applicant passing a pre-employment background check, which includes the submission of fingerprints for
a national and state check. There is a required training session prior to starting work at a school. All applicants must submit
an online application.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY
The AVID tutor, under supervision from the AVID elective teacher, will provide tutoring sessions with students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Facilitate tutorial sessions with small groups of students engaged in academic problem-solving and peer learning.
Tutors do not re-teach curriculum or work as homework assistants.
Become familiar with and use AVID strategies such as Focused Notetaking, Costa’s Levels of Questioning, etc.
Maintain open and honest communication with the AVID elective teacher.
Set an example of organization, responsibility, and personal excellence for AVID students.
Communicate high expectations for achievement by all AVID students.
Serve as mentors to AVID students, developing and fostering relationships during the collaborative inquiry-based
tutorial process.
Follow all District and campus rules and guidelines as applicable.
Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that
promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare
situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position involves working in a normal office setting with no unusual physical demands or exposure to hazardous
situations. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to appropriate administrator or department supervisor on campus.
