MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. One (1) year of EMT field experience is preferred.
Required:
- A DSHS or National Registry EMT certification or higher is required
- A current CPR certification and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use automated external defibrillator
- (AED) for an individual experiencing a cardiac event
- A TDSHS or National Registry EMT certification
- DSHS EMS Instructor
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
The Fire Academy Assistant Support will assist the school Fire Academy Teacher by maintaining order and organization in
the classroom and fire academy setting. Employees in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in
English in order to receive and to provide information to supervisors, principals, school personnel. The following skills are
required for this position.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and team skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally.
- Ability to be detailed and task oriented.
- Must have good computer and data entry skills.
- Must have a passion for assisting AISD students reach high scholastic achievement.

JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY
To assist LBJ Fire Academy (LBJFA) in the delivery of emergency medical and fire instruction in accordance with the Texas
Education Administration (TEA), the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and the Texas Department of State Health
Services (TDSHS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in preparing the classroom and the skills training areas.
- Assist in the delivery of skills training under supervision of a lead instructor.
- Supervise students when the Lead Instructor is detained.
- Serve as a positive role model for LBJFA students.
- Report to the academy according to a set schedule.
- Take part in at least two skills per year.
- Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare
situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Services are generally provided within the Fire Academy setting. Physical demands/requirements: Maintain emotional
control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling,
and pushing; Occasional: Lifting and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds
infrequently with assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically. Work Occasional exposure to biological hazards
(communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the campus administrator. Incumbent will interact with other administrators, teachers, AISD staff,
and the community to assess needs, innovate, create, design, and evaluate programs.
