MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A Bachelor’s degree in Special Ed, Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field from an accredited college or
university is required. A valid Texas Teacher certification in Special Ed EC-12 is preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience
working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is required. Experience providing parent training or working
with families of children with disabilities is preferred. Experience working with a variety of disabilities is preferred. A valid
Texas driver’s license is required. Reliable transportation for district-wide travel is required. Flexible work hours, including
evenings and weekends is required. Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
o Strong understanding of special education laws and practices, including IEP development and implementation.
o Knowledge of various disabilities and effective intervention strategies.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Ability to build rapport with parents and caregivers from diverse backgrounds.
o Strong organizational and time management skills.
o Proficiency in using technology for data collection and communication, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Skilled
use of Google is preferred.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY
This position will provide special Education EC-12 specialized training and support to parents and caregivers of students with
disabilities, from Early Childhood through 12th grade, within their home environment. This role focuses on empowering
parents to effectively implement their child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and strategies in everyday routines.
The In-Home Parent Trainer collaborates with teachers, therapists, and other members of the student's educational team to
ensure consistent and effective support across all settings. Work is performed primarily in the homes of students, which may
vary in cleanliness and accessibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Individualized Parent Training
needs and develop individualized training plans aligned with student IEP goals.
o Provide direct, hands-on training to parents and caregivers in their home environment, focusing on specific
strategies and techniques to support their child's learning and development.
o Model effective teaching and behavior management strategies effective for the student at school to support
implementation from parents at home.
o Teach parents how to collect and analyze data to monitor their child's progress.
o Provide training on the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
- Collaboration and Communication
o Collaborate with special education teachers, therapists (OT, PT, SLP), and other service providers to ensure
consistency in interventions and strategies.

o Maintain regular communication with parents and the educational team through meetings, phone calls, and
written communication.
o Participate in IEP meetings and provide input regarding parent training and progress.
o Document all parent training sessions, progress, and communication in accordance with AISD policies and
procedures.
- Resource Development and Support:
educational materials.
o Develop and adapt training materials to meet the specific needs of individual families.
o Stay current on best practices in special education and parent training.
- Compliance and Professionalism
o Adhere to all AISD policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations related to special
education.
o Maintain confidentiality of student and family information.
o Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
o Travel to various homes within the AISD boundaries.
o Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional
practices that promote a culture of respect.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare
situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform
the essential functions of this job. The position may involve rare exposure to blood and body fluids. Regular attendance is
required for this position.

Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control
behavior through physical restraint, assist nonambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom
equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
Environment: In home training, office environment, district-wide travel
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports to the appropriate supervisor of the department. This position will have contact with administrators,
Special Education Therapist and Specialists, staff, parents and caregivers.
