PURPOSE

Operates mammography equipment to produce quality images of the breast anatomy for diagnostic purposes. Responsible for carrying out all individual tasks within the QA Program which are not assigned to the lead interpreting physician or the medical physicist. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization supported.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Preforms screening mammograms using 2D and 3D medical imaging techniques for mammography patients to demonstrate proper anatomy for interpretation by radiologist.
  • Selects proper technical factors based on individual assessment and provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Practices Universal Precautions and prevents cross-contamination.
  • Responsible for training newly hired mammography technologist and refresher training for mammographers when necessary.
  • Ensures all images meet or exceeds the positioning standards set by the MQSA and ACR.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation and tracking of testing and logging in results of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual testing in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance and corrective measures are taken for proper maintenance and testing of equipment and QA.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.
  • Regular and dependable attendance.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Requests and sends out priors images/exams for continuation of care.
  • Verifies that mammography orders are correct in EMR prior to patient arrival.
  • Makes radiology appointments (mammography, bone density and x-ray) when necessary.
  • Cancels orders (mammography, bone density and x-ray) when necessary.
  • Performs others duties as assigned.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains and stocks work area, including mammography suite.
  • Follows rules and regulations of Austin Regional Clinic as described in the employee handbook and in the unit/department/clinic procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of formal radiologic technology program in an AMA-approved school. Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a mammographer.

Preferred: Experience with ACR accreditation, MQSA State Inspection procedures, and all mammography QC testing.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Familiarity with document imaging and workflow systems a plus.

Ability to perform job functions, troubleshoot problems and make decisions without direct supervision.

Must be flexible in daily assignments and able to cross-cover within an assigned work group.

Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instruction and must be able to communicate with co-workers to perform duties as part of a work group.

Must display a high level of accuracy, critical thinking and organization.

Must be able to carry 20 pounds and lift 5 pounds overhead.

Strong computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.

Excellent customer service skills.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Certificate/License: Registered in mammography with ARRT and licensed through Texas Medical Board, and AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card or within 60 days of hire required.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00am-5:00pm
