We are looking for an experienced (Intermediate or Higher Level) Maintenance Technician / Mechanic to work in the maintenance shop and with our mechanic group. This is a field Mechanic position that MAY work in the shop. You will be ultimately responsible for the safe and efficient repair of construction equipment such as loaders, excavators, and grinders.
We expect you to have know-how in heavy equipment repair. Decision-making and problem-solving will take up a great part of your day. A successful candidate for this position will ensure that work is completed safely, on schedule and as directed. You will operate a service truck and travel to different locations to perform the work. Will be required to inspect all equipment to identify any additional problems with equipment. Must be willing to work on any piece of equipment Austin Wood Recycling has in its fleet. You will be provided with diagnostic software to perform diagnostics as needed.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment.
- Report all accidents and injuries, regardless of severity.
- Follow all standard operating procedures and processes.
- Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required to be worn at all times (safety toe shoes/boots, vest, hard hat, & gloves).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have 5 years of verifiable experience working on heavy equipment.
- Must have worked with Caterpillar engines, Allison Transmissions, and John Deere Equipment
- Must have own tools.
- Must be willing to work in a field environment or shop as required. Must also be willing to work on whatever task that is assigned.
- Able to use manufacturer's software for diagnostics, John Deere, CAT, and Cummins. A-plus for JPro, PTT, Davey, and Snap-On scanner.
- Ability to read and comprehend equipment manuals and lubrication charts. Also required to use manufacturer's parts diagrams to identify required parts to complete repairs.
- Ability to read and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics, follow diagnostic trouble shooting trees and understand theory of operations.
- Strong electrical knowledge is a plus.
- Advance mechanical skills are required and expected. Rebuild skills are a plus.
- Advance knowledge of tools and equipment used for job.
- Must follow all safety rules and regulations as required AWR Handbook, manufacturer recommendations, and OHSA.
- Strong computer skills needed. Will be required to use maintenance management software.
- Maintain company property and equipment.
- Need to be adaptable to changing job demands based on workload.
- Must be able to work overtime (normal hours require OT), and on emergency basis Saturday.
- Must have great communication skills and be able to communicate progress of jobs to supervisor.
- May occasionally be required to stay out of town overnight.
- Complete repairs in a timely manner.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
- Experience troubleshooting engines, transmissions, hydraulics, brakes, and suspensions.
- Driver’s License and clear driving record required.
- Willing and able to go out into field environments to make repairs as necessary.
- Must be willing to learn the operation and repair of new pieces of equipment.
- Welding ability a plus.
- ASE Certifications a plus.
- Must be able to work in a sometimes noisy or dusty indoor and outdoor environment.
- Must have good communication skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours and sometimes weekends.
- Bilingual a plus.
