Machinist -Duties and Tasks :
1) Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
2) Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as both CNC and manual lathes, milling machines or grinders.
3) Measure and examine completed parts in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
4) Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
5) Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials onto machines.
6) Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
7) Study blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
8) Select the appropriate tools, machines and materials to be used in preparation of work.
9) Lay out, measure and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
10) Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
11) Check workpieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
12) Maintain machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout and machining procedures.
13) Position and fasten workpieces securely.
14) Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
15) Clean and lubricate machines, tools and equipment in order to maintain proper operating order.
16) Program and edit part programs to produce parts per print dimensions.
17) Check with engineering, supervisory and manufacturing associates in order to make changes to processes.
18) Check CNC programs to ensure machinery will function properly and that output will meet specifications.
19) Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
20) Design fixtures, tooling and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
21) Document dimensional values per print of machined values on proper inspection forms.
22) Must have the ability to handle materials that could weight up to 75 pounds.
23) Have a good understanding of basic shop practices and possess good math skills.
24) Must have a strong regard for safety, PPE and team interaction.
25) Must have the willingness to learn and possess a high attention to detail.
26) Should possess basic computer skills and solid comprehension skills for shop communications.
