About the Role
The Engineering Manager performs a wide variety of leadership and technical functions related to product application, mechanical design, research and development and post ship support. This position participates in business development activities regarding process, structure, performance and company forward strategy. This position will lead a team of 12 and will report directly to the president of AMC.
Managerial Responsibilities & Duties
- Lead, manage, and establish goals and direction for the mechanical & controls engineering team.
- Grow the engineering departments through mentoring, nurturing and succession.
- Develop new products as well as old technology, creativity and in-depth design for manufacturing.
- Achieve excellence and success through implementation and execution of proven practices and processes allowing for performance to budget and schedule.
- Support the development and design of cost-effective mechanical engineering solutions that complement the desired process and technology of the sold solution.
- Provide technical support and consultation functions to all departments and customers alike.
- Improve margins through product evaluation, simplification and commonality.
- Provide technical support to post-shop functions related to spare parts and service.
- Manage engineers and other technical staff in the design and development of products, systems, processes and equipment by analyzing technical problems and working closely to customer specifications and industry standards.
- Monitor and review performance of department individuals with tangible measurables related to quality and performance to budget and schedule.
- Travel to the customer's site (as required) to assist in product development, working with engineering design specifications, objectives and standards.
- Technically support the account managers when required to assist in the presentation of proposed solutions and processes.
- Assist in special projects in support for sales and marketing, applications and manufacturing.
- Meet agreed upon goals and objectives in a timely manner.
- Assists and attends technical seminars and industry exhibitions.
- Formulates departmental strategic plan, capacity forecasting and annual budgets.
- Serves as a member of various employee and organizational committees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Be Successful
- Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar strongly preferred.
- Years of experience and demonstration in engineering management and leadership.
- Strong professional background with mechanical products and systems design.
- Practical, in-depth working knowledge of automated assembly & test solutions, material handling systems, mechanical designs, special machines, mechanisms, electrical and fluid machine control and process logistics.
- Solid technical assessment, communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and design tools such as 2D and 3D software.
- Process engineering background and proven trouble-shooting skills.
- Business and practical application exposure at a national and international level.
- Travel between 15%-25% to customer sites and other Coesia business locations in North America.
