Position Overview::
We are seeking a detail-oriented NMLS Compliance Specialist: to oversee and manage our organization's licensing and compliance requirements related to the Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS). This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to all federal and state regulatory requirements, coordinating licensing applications, renewals, and audits, and supporting the legal and compliance teams in maintaining regulatory compliance.

The Compliance Specialist is responsible for protecting the company by maintaining our NMLS licenses, researching, tracking, facilitating, and leading Federal and State examinations. This role reports to the Compliance Manager and educates departments on Federal and State regulatory requirements in addition to recommending or implementing process improvements. The individual will be tasked with the maintenance of higher complexity reporting obligations for all company and branch licenses, ensuring adherence to Federal and State regulatory compliance standards. In addition, the individual will be responsible for building complex queries, data analysis, and manipulating as needed to satisfy Regulatory requests.

Key Responsibilities::
  • License Management: Oversee and manage all company and individual mortgage loan originator (MLO) licensing applications, renewals, and amendments in NMLS.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing mortgage licensing, reporting, and record-keeping.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Track and monitor licensing statuses, deadlines, and regulatory changes, providing regular updates to key stakeholders.
  • Application & Renewal Coordination: Prepare, submit, and maintain all licensing documents required for state and federal compliance.
  • Audit Support: Assist in regulatory examinations, audits, and compliance reviews, ensuring all necessary documentation is readily available.
  • Policy & Procedure Maintenance: Develop and update internal policies and procedures related to licensing compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with HR, Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure licensing requirements are met for employees and the company.
  • Training & Guidance: Provide guidance to employees on licensing requirements and compliance best practices.
  • Filing of Corporate Quarterly and Annual Reports
  • File secretary state renewals and required corporate quarterly and annual reports.
  • Assists with research of Federal and State regulatory changes and statutes for license coverage, as well as assists with implementation and audit of the applicable changes

Qualifications & Requirements::
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Law, or a related field (preferred).
  • 1 years of experience in NMLS licensing, compliance, or regulatory affairs within the mortgage, banking, or financial services industry.
  • 2 years of Compliance or other related financial analysis experience
  • Working knowledge of loan applications, closing, and servicing documents as well as financing terminology.
  • Ability to research, build, and run queries and logically understand query definitions and analyze data effectively and efficiently.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal mortgage licensing regulations.
  • Experience managing NMLS applications, renewals, and regulatory filings.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with compliance management software (preferred).

Preferred Qualifications::
  • Experience working with mortgage lenders, banks, or financial institutions.
  • Knowledge of CFPB, SAFE Act, and other regulatory requirements related to mortgage licensing.
  • Prior experience in a compliance, risk management, or legal support role.
