What are the responsibilities and job description for the Automotive Diagnostic Technician position at Automotive Technical Solutions?
Automotive Technical Solution’s Automotive Service division is seeking an individual for a Vehicle Diagnostic Technician position. This team is responsible for all of the diagnostic content supported by Dealer Scan Tools, Engineering scan tools, and special tools which use the standardized J1962 connector (or OBD-II port) Example diagnostic content consists of sensor reading, input and output reading, actuators, OBD II monitors, diagnostic procedures and so on.
The Vehicle Diagnostic Technician must be a highly motivated, self-starter that can manage many different projects at the same time. The selected individual must have a vast knowledge of vehicle on-board diagnostics including knowledge of diagnostic communication protocols. Specific job responsibilities include:
· Implement and maintain diagnostic support for ECUs on our OEM scan tools
· Manage development activities with respect to product delivery schedules
· Creation and maintenance of procedures used by the service tool for ECU replacements and initializations
· Direct debugging on vehicles, ECUs, and tool issues upstream with customer electrical engineering personnel
Basic Qualifications
· Minimum 5 years’ experience working with diagnostic scan tools
· Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering or Automotive Technology preferred
· Knowledgeable with CAN, J1850, K-Line and other automotive communication bus systems
· Knowledgeable with enhanced diagnostic communication protocols such as KWP2000 and UDS
· Strong working knowledge of Vector tools such and CANalyzer and CANdela
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Strong analytical and problem solving skills
· Must be highly self-motivated and self-starter with strong interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Background in Automotive plant processes and vehicle data flow through plant systems
· Understanding of Vehicle Configuration process
· Working knowledge of automotive vehicle electrical architectures
· Background in service; Dealership or aftermarket shop preferred
· Understanding of current Right to Repair legislation to support Aftermarket tool availability
