The Product Development Engineer is responsible for delivering effective and economically viable product (textile centric) solutions that are consistent with the company’s strategic goals and objectives. Textile centric encompasses but is not limited to: BCF nylon, polyester, and polypropylene yarns used in tufted carpets, staple polyester and polypropylene fibers used in non-woven carpets, polyester, polypropylene and nylon fibers used in spun bond primary and secondary backings as well as polyester and nylon fibers used in chemical bond facing scrims, cotton, wool, and other natural fibers. Product construction development and validation efforts will be conducted in close collaboration and partnership with other colleagues inside and outside of Autoneum such as Suppliers, Program Management, Manufacturing Plants, Advanced Manufacturing, Applications Engineering, Tooling, Purchasing, R&T, etc. The Carpet and Textile Development Engineer will be responsible for identifying, planning and leading the effective execution of the assigned projects and updating the associated bills of material and product specifications. Project efforts must be consistent with strategic product direction, automotive market and technical trends and in consideration of all aspects of design for manufacturability such that cost optimization is developed into the product. All projects must be managed effectively to ensure on-time delivery and flawless launches by delivering product solutions that meet all business plan assumptions for output and capital expenditures.

Product Development Engineer

The Product Development Engineer responsibilities will Include:
- Develop, evaluate and obtain customer approvals of the material constructions for new products and processes (automotive carpet, mat, non-carpeted flooring, trunk trim and other various interior materials and systems).
- Develop specifications for raw materials and semi-finished goods.
- Ensure that the specified materials from the product point of view are compatible with the desired processing methods.
- Support general development activities such as Expert Networks, and DOE efforts.
- Support all program launch activities to ensure products developed deliver expected output on time and on budget while exceeding program expectations.
- Use previous Product Development experiences to specify, maintain and improve products used for accurately quoting future business.
- Benchmark new and existing processes and materials (both internal & external to Autoneum) to ensure optimal technology in the development of new products.
- Conduct thermal profiling to determine product compatibility and impacts on heating and cooling cycles.
- Lead and coordinate product development trials at the plants.
- Work in conjunction with purchasing to develop back-up sources of raw materials and products wherever possible, to provide Autoneum with some leverage at the time of industrialization.
- Ensure all product and material documentation including specifications, bills of materials, and critical process parameter sheets are kept up to date in the product lifecycle management system. Organize all data, project reports, approvals and records within the secure electronic data management and documentation network.
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering, Textile Material Science, Textile Management, Textile Materials Technology, Polymer and Textile Chemistry or Bachelor of Science in mechanical Engineering with a minor in Textile engineering from an accredited institution.
- 1 to years previous cumulative experience in relevant technologies if preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret technical communications.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and other internal/external customers.
- Skilled in advanced mathematics.
- This position requires the ability to organize thoughts and priorities under a considerable amount of pressure.
- Must be able to reason and solve problems based on technical understanding of needs and procedures.
- Skilled in all Microsoft Office products.
- This position will require domestic and some international travel up to 50%. Travel is required, by car or air, to visit customers and manufacturing locations. Some international travel could be required.
- Position frequently requires working more than 40 hours per week.
- This position works under pressure of deadlines with interruptions occurring regularly.
