About the Role
We are looking for a Systems Engineer - Software Applications to join our team in Mendon, Utah. This role serves as a technical specialist supporting the development of command-and-control software applications. The Systems Engineer acts as the interface between Product Management, Solution/System Architects, and Software Developers, transforming stakeholder requirements into a structured set of system and subsystem requirements that guide the software design.
Job Duties
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to gather, process, and track stakeholder goals and KPIs.
- Translate product goals and KPIs into detailed system requirements for command-and-control application features and functions.
- Generate interface control documents to ensure proper interactions between different subsystems.
- Specify functional and non-functional software requirements in a software specification document that aligns with the defined functions and capabilities.
- Ensure that safety goals and requirements are successfully integrated into product designs.
- Evaluate new requests by collaborating with engineering disciplines to establish estimates for new features and functions.
- Participate in conceptual design and documentation processes.
- Engage in design reviews to ensure traceability of requirements and compliance.
- Support the development of system/subsystem level requirements verification and customer acceptance test cases.
- Review test plans/procedures to ensure alignment with requirements.
- Focus on workflows, optimization methods, and risk management tools for assigned projects.
- Contribute to business development processes through proposal inputs, meetings, and presentations to potential customers.
- Travel as required (<10%) to customer facilities, test facilities, and customer field sites to address issues and explore design alternatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 3 years of direct experience in requirements elicitation and generation.
- Proven track record of being part of the product development lifecycle for complex systems and/or software applications.
- Experience in autonomous systems, robotics, or related fields is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with development methodologies such as Agile or Scrum.
- Proficient understanding of design principles, software development, and requirement management.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent communication skills to articulate ideas and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of autonomous technology, robotics, or related domains.
- Familiarity with testing frameworks and continuous integration tools.
- Experience with Jama or other requirements management tools.
