Job Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to perform assigned tasks as delegated by your supervisors. As a Unit Assistant, this person is versed in a wide variety of non-nursing tasks and geared especially to enhance the environment and lives of the residents.
Summary of Essential Job Functions
The following is an outline of the major responsibilities that this position will be responsible for. This is not an all-inclusive list of the responsibilities; therefore this position may require other tasks as directed by the supervisor.
- Making beds, assisting with meals, transporting, water pass, organizing and cleaning the resident rooms as well as the storage room and the day room, taking care of soiled linen, linen carts, and non-nursing related tasks as directed by supervisor.
- Visit residents, offering social and cognitive stimulation. Utilize activity supplies to offer a wide variety of activity during 1:1 time.
- Assist in maintaining resident progress. Report to the Unit Director and Director of Activities any changes in resident behavior, physical, and mental condition, and complete the required documentation.
- Be aware of the program as written on the Medical Record and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Organize dining room for serving including, but not necessarily limited to, setting up serving area, clean up and sanitation of area at end of shift.
- Follow all facility policies and procedures to maintain good sanitary conditions and infection control.
Minimum Qualifications
Preferred: Experience in a similar environment.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
Minimum Skills and Abilities Required
- Must be able to effectively speak the English language and will be able to make decisions.
- Able to read and write legibly.
- Possess excellent positivity when faced with the general public.
- Able to maintain patient confidentiality, exhibit good mental judgement, and an awareness of the needs of the residents.
- Employee must be presentable in proper dress, dependable, cooperative and able to keep confidentiality.
Working Conditions
- Works in all areas of the facility (interior and exterior).
- Interact with all personnel and residents.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be in good physical condition and able to push, pull, and move equipment when needed.
