Position Summary
Under the direction of the Revenue Manager, performs various duties to accurately interpret and bill physician charges for physician services. Entering appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes bills charges into the EHR Billing System.
Reports to: Revenue Manager
Essential Job Duties:
· Performs initial charge review to determine appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to be used to report physician services to third party payers.
· Thoroughly evaluates medical records to determine E&M level coding accuracy, evaluates other documentation to accurately reflect and support the outpatient visit, and to ensure that data complies with legal standards and guidelines.
· Interprets medical information such as disease or symptoms, and diagnostic descriptions and procedures for a given visit in order to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-10 codes.
· Contacts physicians through management regarding procedures and other services billed to ensure proper coding.
· Responsible for reviewing patient logs and other reports of clinical activity to ensure billing is captured for all patients.
· Monitors and follows up to ensure all services that can be billed are captured and coded for billing.
· Reviews all physician documentation to ensure compliance with third party state and Federal regulatory guidelines.
· Works in conjunction with the other Billing Office staff and Physicians to answer all coding inquiries.
· Meets and exceeds short- and long-term goals as established for the department.
· Perform duties and job functions in accordance with the policies and procedures established for the department.
· Reports to work, meetings and professional obligations on time.
· Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals.
· Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to influence continuous improvements in department's efficiency and services performed.
· Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
· Reports errors such as; under/over coding, lack of supporting documentation, encounter timeliness, etc., to supervisor to promote physician education.
· Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
· Maintains a positive working relationship and fosters a cooperative work environment.
· Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with providers, managers, peers and other departments.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
· High school diploma or GED completion is required.
· Certified Professional Coder with a minimum of three years’ experience with CPT/ICD-9/ICD-10 coding of physician services preferred.
· Good working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy required.
· Encounter audit to determine E&M Level
Job Knowledge:
· Knowledge of current third-party billing and collection of regulatory guidelines and requirements.
· Good interpersonal skills and a basic understanding of team management concepts.
· Ability to gather and interpret clinical data.
· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
· Experience and knowledge of the 2021 Revised E/M Coding Guidelines is required.
· Previous outpatient coding experience required, preferably in primary care.

Sensory and communicative activities including: hearing, seeing, and speaking to be able to carry out essential job functions. Must be able to read and write English. Must be able to differentiate between all ranges of color.

Pay: $19.50 - $25.50 per hour
