ARS Recycling Operator – Abrasive Blasting
Position Summary
Avail is seeking ARS Recycling Operators that will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining the Abrasive Recycling System (ARS) during abrasive blasting operations in a shipyard environment. This role ensures efficient recovery, recycling, and disposal of blast media in compliance with safety, environmental, and production standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate ARS vacuum recovery and media recycling systems to support abrasive blasting operations.
- Monitor equipment performance and perform routine maintenance checks to ensure optimal operation.
- Conduct inspections and cleanouts of dust collectors, filters, hoppers, and screens.
- Load and unload abrasive media, ensuring proper material separation and disposal of contaminants.
- Track media usage, recycling efficiency, and waste generation; report data to supervisors.
- Assist with setup, breakdown, and relocation of ARS systems as needed for project mobility.
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations, including proper PPE use.
- Support blasting crews with media supply and coordination during surface prep activities.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions immediately.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas in and around ARS equipment.
Qualifications
Required:
- 1 year experience operating abrasive recycling or industrial vacuum systems (preferred shipyard experience)
- Familiarity with abrasive blasting media and recycling processes
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance skills
- Ability to read and understand work instructions, safety procedures, and SDS sheets
- Ability to wear respirator and work in confined or elevated spaces
Certifications (Preferred):
- OSHA 10 Maritime
- Confined Space Entry
- Forklift or material handling equipment certification
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Exposure to noisy, dusty, and physically demanding environments
- Work in enclosed tanks, vessels, or onboard ships in all weather conditions
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including respiratory protection
Work Authorization & Security Clearance
- Must be able to obtain DBIDS or other required credentials for access to government shipyards or private facilities
- U.S. citizenship may be required depending on project contract requirements
