St. Regis Academy Job Description

St. Regis Academy is blessed to partner with 4-6 school districts each year. As an employee of the school district, this position is managed by the St. Regis Academy Principal. The Title 1 teacher is paid by one or more school districts depending on the residential area of the scholars they serve. The Title 1 teacher supports the academic needs of our scholars scoring one grade level below the grade level standard in English Language Arts or Mathematics. This teacher works with small groups of scholars with a variety of academic needs. The Title 1 teacher serves as part of a larger purpose, to include scholars with a variety of academic needs within our Academy and to meet the academic needs of all of our scholars. The schedule for this position is flexible. Work hours between 1 : 00pm -5 : 00pm are preferred.

The teacher serves the mission of the Catholic Church by planning, guiding, and evaluating the learning process of the scholars within the framework of the Academy's philosophy, organization, and curriculum. The teacher provides the appropriate learning atmosphere and activities designed to maximize scholar competencies and skills for intellectual, emotional, physical, social, and spiritual growth. The teacher has decision making responsibilities in keeping with Academy policies and the Diocesan Schools Administrative Manual.

The ideal candidate would have experience teaching elementary school and possess knowledge of Classical teaching. A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required. Certification in the subject area is required by each school district. (i.e. Kindergarten-5th English Language Arts or must be a certified elementary teacher. Sixth-8th Grade Title 1 Math Teacher must be certified in secondary Mathematics).

Duties / Responsibilities

  • Establish positive relationships and communicate effectively with all members of the Academy community.
  • Model differentiation within the classroom to support each scholar in demonstrating mastery of concepts.
  • Meet with teachers one on one to discuss and analyze scholar performance data to identify scholar needs and address any potential gaps in knowledge.
  • Assist with completing bi-annual Title 1 reports for the scholars being served.
  • Plan and coordinate a parent involvement night.
  • Comply with the regulations as set in place by each school district.
  • Relate to scholars by loving them with the love of Christ, encouraging them to begin and / or develop their own relationship with God through sacraments and scripture, and challenging them to love others.
  • Be a role model of Christian love, faith, truthfulness and virtue.
  • Establish positive relationships and communicate effectively with all members of the Academy community.
  • Work with small groups and individual scholars to support growth in mastery of academic concepts.
  • Manage the small groups by setting clear expectations of behavior, establishing reasonable routines, and promoting self-discipline based on Catholic principles.
  • Teach scholars in a challenging, enthusiastic and age-appropriate manner using the Classical model. Ensure that within the year, the scope and sequence of concepts and skills assigned to the grade are taught to the scholars.
  • Apply Catholic moral principles and comply with the Academy policy in administration of behavioral discipline in the classroom. Communicate clearly, frequently, and regularly to parents about discipline issues regarding their children.
  • Evaluate each scholar's progress on a regular basis and report that progress to the scholar, parents, and principal.
  • Respond expediently to parent, scholar, or administrator concerns and ideas.
  • Assure that all classroom equipment and materials are safe and well-maintained.
  • Serve as an advocate for St. Regis Academy, as well as Classical education, in the Kansas City area.
  • Stay current on the best practices in education and teaching, particularly with regard to Classical education, in order to provide academic excellence.
  • Actively involve parents in the life of the Academy, and coordinate classroom volunteers.
  • Collaborate with peers to enhance the work environment and support instructional planning
  • Demonstrate gains in scholar performance that are in keeping with Academy goals
  • Demonstrate a willingness to respond to individual learning needs
  • Maintain professionalism in dress and hygiene
  • Support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the Academy
  • Act as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Support and adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the Academy and Diocese
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding Academy matters
  • Plan for instruction with specific scholar objectives and logically sequenced instruction based on the approved curriculum
  • Use appropriate material and resources for scholars to engage in learning
  • Use effective instructional methods according to professional best practice
  • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments
  • Maintain current and accurate records
  • Contact parents when necessary for either academic or behavioral concerns
  • Conference with parents upon request and respond to messages in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate professional work habits by regular attendance, honoring schedules / deadlines, organizing work, and conducting assigned tasks in an effective and efficient manner
  • Keep the Principal informed of areas of need and concern

Qualifications

Candidates for faculty positions at St. Regis Academy must :

  • Exemplify and articulate a life of faith in Christ.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to be trained in Classical educational methods.
  • Be in agreement with the philosophy of St. Regis Academy as articulated in the Vision Statement.
  • Be willing to cooperate with and support the policies of the school administration (pastor and principal)
  • Be passionate about educating children in a Catholic environment and about the grade / subject to be taught. Experience is preferred but not required.
  • Be willing to work closely with parents in the education of their children.
  • Be committed to academic excellence.
  • Be committed to continuing, lifelong learning.
  • Possess a Bachelor's Degree and a current teaching certificate (or obtain certification within three years of hire).
