Account Manager (Surety)

Avalon Risk Management (“Avalon”) is a specialty insurance broker with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada. We focus on the unique and exciting world of risk management and insurance products for the international trade and logistics industry. Avalon is a privately held company owned by our founding management team and we have celebrated over 25 years of success. We are looking for a full-time Account Manager to focus on the Surety coverage needs of our international trade and logistics clients. This position is based out of our Los Angeles office located at 21250 Hawthorne Blvd., Suite 160-H, Torrance, CA 90503.


This role supports our clients, the importing/exporting industry, and the various international programs we manage. If you want to work in an environment where you can apply your customs Surety expertise every day, this is the opportunity for you.


We are looking for direct customs Surety experience, either from the insurance side or if you are pivoting directly from the industry. Our Account Managers, on behalf of our customers, act as their Surety advocate securing the required Surety coverage to meet the customer’s obligations to its obligees. Account Managers develop strong relationships with customers and use their understanding of their business to best represent our customers’ needs and present acceptable submissions to our Surety markets.


This position requires candidates to have an active CA Property & Casualty license.


This position entails:

  • Maintaining high retention of existing accounts by servicing and supporting Surety clients of Avalon’s Western region.
  • Collecting and accurately compiling information from customers to prepare submissions to Surety company underwriters.
  • Preparing accurate final submissions of completed bonds to Surety companies / Processing endorsements.
  • Executing bonds under POA for Surety companies.
  • Verifying bond renewals and submitting billing instructions.
  • Updating and maintaining Surety files to ensure ongoing underwriting compliance.
  • Increasing revenue by cross selling as opportunities arise.
  • Successfully completing ongoing training sessions, courses, etc. to maintain up-to-date skills and licensing requirements.
  • Other assigned responsibilities.


Candidates must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. To support our clients this position will require a strong work ethic, close attention to detail, and flexibility. To succeed in this position, you must possess strong organizational skills, the ability to work with a team or independently, and excellent computer skills. Experience using the EPIC system is preferred.


The base compensation range is $70,000 - $80,000 per year, dependent on experience. Our incentive structure allows the team to earn a base salary and bonus potential. Avalon sets our team’s goals to align their efforts with corporate goals.
