Customer Service Representative (Surety) - National Accounts
Avalon Risk Management (“Avalon”) is a specialty insurance broker with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada. We focus on the unique and exciting world of risk management and insurance products for the international trade and logistics industry. Avalon is a privately held company owned by our founding management team. We are looking for a client focused Customer Service Representative to join our National Accounts Department. This full-time position will work from our headquarters in Schaumburg, IL and after an introductory training period will be eligible for a hybrid in-office and work from home environment.
Our National Accounts (NATL) team provides sales and service to our largest and most geographically diverse clients. Avalon is looking for candidates with at least 3 years of office-based professional customer service experience, preferably in a customs broker or insurance-based environment. Our support staff must have the capacity and initiative to problem solve and seek out appropriate solutions for our clients and staff.
This position will require a high degree of accuracy and excellent attention to detail. Successful candidates must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines to avoid disruption of insurance coverage, consistently follow instructions, and have intermediate skills in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel. Great candidates will be flexible and fast learners. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to support our clients.
Some of the responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
  • Supporting National Accounts clients, particularly around bond activities.
  • Focusing on customs bonds support
    • New bond requests/Insufficiencies. Quoting bond rates/premiums as well as placement/processing fees.
    • Processing bond termination/cancellation requests (STBs and CTBs)
    • Process bond rider requests and quote any applicable premium due (recon riders, addition/deletion riders).
    • Manage Corporate bonds by reviewing and updating bond lists as necessary as well as processing any new bond requests.
    • Answering general bond questions from our clients such as how to complete bond forms, how to use our proprietary software (Merlin), answer rate/premium questions, etc.
  • Other client and team support actions as assigned
A P&C insurance license will be required for this position within the first 120 days of employment. Avalon will help you obtain this license upon hire by providing access to training and classes, and we bear the associated expenses.
