Staff Accountant
Avalon Risk Management (“Avalon”) is a specialty insurance broker with offices throughout the U.S. and Canada. We focus on the unique and exciting world of risk management and insurance products for the international trade and logistics industry. Avalon is a privately held company owned by our founding management team. We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to. The Staff Accountant plays a crucial role in our accounting cycle as well as other projects and reconciliations. and more.
We are looking for candidates with at least 2-3 years of experience in an accounting-related position. Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel) is required, and experience with Great Plains Dynamics is helpful. A degree candidate is preferred; some college coursework related to business, finance, or accounting will be considered.
This position will require a high degree of accuracy and excellent attention to detail. The candidate must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, follow instructions, have strong organizational, multi-tasking, and computer skills, with intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel. The candidate should also be flexible and a fast learner. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Some of the responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
- Assist with receivables, payables, financial statement preparation, and bank reconciliations.
- Assist with Monthly activities including various account reconciliations, general journal entries, premium payments to our insurance carriers, research discrepancies, assisting with audit and budgeting processes as requested, check issuance for special programs, and general check preparation for expenses, claims, refunds, etc.
- Scanning, researching, and processing bank transactions and depositing checks.
- Assist with additional projects as assigned by manager
Avalon is a premier provider of innovative insurance and surety solutions. This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting base compensation range of $54,000 - $58,000 per year.
